Job Description: Senior Tutor
Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to contribute to Massey University’s

teaching and learning outcomes by assisting in the delivering of teaching
and marking of undergraduate papers, in the Mental Health and
Addiction major and Bachelor Health Science programme, under the
supervision of a designated academic lead.

About this area The School of Health Sciences is within the College of Health, Te Kura
Hauora Tangata. In line with the philosophy of hauora, we advocate for
improved health outcomes and our work influences national and
international health agendas. The School of Health Sciences includes staff
with expertise across a range of disciplines including Biomedical Sciences,
Public Health, Disability and Rehabilitation studies, Environmental Health,
Mental Health and Addiction, Health Promotion, and Occupational Health
and Safety.

Our research and teaching focuses on promoting health equity at the
population level and engaging in Te Tiriti o Waitangi-led practice. We
have expertise in health and social policy, Māori and Indigenous health,
maternal and child health, healthy ageing, mental health and addiction,
epidemiology, and community health.

Accountabilities
Teaching • Under the supervision of the designated academic lead, undertake, as
appropriate for a particular course, the teaching of tutorials, lectures,
seminars, studio teaching, laboratories and workshops; and provide
support with marking and student interaction, as directed by the
designated academic lead.

  • Where the course is team-taught, Tutors/Senior Tutors are responsible
to the designated academic lead.
  • Deliver teaching via all delivery modes and on each of Massey
University’s campuses as required.
  • May support the development of a course and its study materials
and/or the assessment criteria and process, under the supervision of
the designated academic lead.
  • Help maintain learning resources such as study guides, online learning
environments, and laboratory materials.
  • Undertake teaching on other Massey University campuses as required.
  • Contribute to feedback and evaluation processes under the supervision
of the designated academic lead.
  • Comply with relevant teaching and learning policies and procedures
(e.g., Teaching & Learning, Academic Integrity, Assessment and
Equivalence).

Service • Contribute to meeting the administrative and committee needs of the
University, both internally and externally, by participating in
School/Institute, College and University functions as may be required,
or approved from time to time, by the Head of School/Institute.

  • Other duties or responsibilities which may be assigned by the Head of
School or a Course Coordinator from time to time.
  • Undertake professional development activities as required or approved,
which are relevant to the position.
  • Be responsible for one’s own safety and for the safety of others.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications:  Postgraduate qualification, preferably in health or a related field.

We strongly encourage those working toward further postgraduate
qualification in health or hauora.

Experience:  Expertise in hauora Māori, tikanga and te reo Māori.
 Teaching experience in online (distance) content design and delivery.
 Demonstrated teaching excellence in mental health and addiction,

and knowledge of appropriate pedagogies to enhance content
delivery in this space.

 Our programmes are focused on building workforce capacity and
