Institute for Cancer Research
The Institute for Cancer Research (ICR) organized as a part of the Division of Cancer Medicine at OUH, conducts cutting edge cancer research ranging from basic cancer biology to translational and clinical research. It is the leading cancer research institute in Norway and has a strong international standing. ICR is organized in 6 research departments, currently with altogether 25 research groups, approx. 390 employees and an annual output of approx. 230 peer reviewed publications. Particularly strong research areas are molecular genetics, cell biology, cancer progression and metastasis biology, biomarker discovery and development, radiation biology, tumour immunology/immunotherapy and systems biology. The groups conduct particularly strong translational research within breast cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, lymphomas, sarcomas, melanoma, gynaecologic cancers and prostate cancer. ICR also hosts a department for core facilities including NGS/genomics platforms, bioinformatics, flow- and mass cytometry, pre-clinical imaging scanner (incl. animal MRI) and X-ray machine, and electron-, confocal- and high-resolution microscopy. In collaboration with The University of Oslo, ICR is in the leadership of a Center of Excellence (Can Cell), a K.G. Jebsen Center for B cell malignancies, a Centre for Advanced Cell Therapy (ACT) and a new Norwegian Centre for Clinical Cancer Research (MATRIX), as well as other large nation-wide collaborative projects and EU funded projects. For further information see institute; ous-research.
Oslo University Hospital is a workplace with great diversity. We believe that this is absolutely crucial to solving the tasks required of us. We therefore want this diversity to be reflected among the applicants for our positions and encourage everyone to apply regardless of who you are and what background you have.
The Research Group on Photochemical Internalization
Photochemical internalisation (PCI) is a novel technology for improving the transfer of macromolecules into the cytosol of cells. This is executed through photochemical targeting of endocytic vesicles, leading to release of the contents of these vesicles into the cytosol. The group's main focus is to develop PCI for therapeutic purposes. The PCI group has three main focuses:
- Revealing the mechanisms regulating the treatment outcome
- Developing novel drugs for PCI delivery (recombinant proteins)
- Study immunological aspects on the treatment outcome.
Job description
We are seeking a dedicated, creative and enthusiastic candidate for a Ph D research fellow at our Department of Radiation Biology. The position is funded by internal resources and is available for three years. The position will be associated with Anette Weyergang's project group were they are developing new drugs (recombinant targeting toxins) for PCI-delivery. The project will include molecular design of targeted toxins following recombinant production, purification and testing in relevant models. The project group has generated supportive in vitro and in vivo data on one targeted toxin for the treatment of head and neck cancer (HNSCC) and will with this project explore other variants of the concept. The project also harbors evaluation of the targeted toxins in combination with PCI and immunotherapy. Anette Weyergang will supervise the project.
The project will involve molecular cloning and small scale production of 2-5 targeted toxins to identify candidates to proceed. In vitro testing of the targeted toxins in combination with PCI will be done in several cancer models both in vitro and in vivo. Methods will include cloning, protein purification (liquid chromatography) monolayer culturing, cellular viability assays, evaluation of protein signal transduction (Western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry), PCI, evaluation of anticancer efficacy in mice (tumour growth delay, IHC, IVIS, MRI).
- The Ph D candidate will be expected to conduct research in Photomedicine leading to a Ph D degree
- Complete the doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree
-
Appointment to a Ph D position requires that you are admitted to the Ph D program at the University of Oslo, Department of Pharmacy, within three months of employment, and that you participate in an organized Ph D program during the employment period.
- Attend international conferences, workshops and courses.
