Join us at Rainforest Foundation Norway (RFN) in our crucial mission to save the world's last tropical rainforests. We are seeking a dynamic and skilled person to lead our efforts in research, knowledge building and strategic partnerships within supply chains that are commercial drivers for deforestation.
This role will focus on knowledge building and research within commercial drivers for deforestation, and serve as a thematic expert on one, or a few, commodities.
The rising demand for different commodities such as palmoil to be used in biofuels poses a significant threat to tropical rainforests, making this role critical as deforestation remains a pressing issue on the global agenda. This position requires strategic engagement with both policy and commercial actors, and the ability to foster partnerships that enhance our research and advocacy efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
As a key member of our deforestation-free markets team, you will collaborate with experienced and dedicated individuals to:
- Serve as one of RFN’s thematic experts on the drivers of deforestation at a global level and with the responsibility for one or several commodities.
- Lead RFN’s work in projects related to biofuels, including grant management and coordination with subgrantees in rainforest countries and Europe.
- Lead and develop work on research and ESG management within the team for deforestation free markets, and create synergies between our different experts working on different supply chains with a strategic overview, in collaboration with RFNs Knowledge and Learning Manager
- Develop and nurture strategic partnerships with academic institutions, NGOs, and other key stakeholders to strengthen RFNs role and work on commercial drivers for deforestation
- Coordinate and interpret complex assessments, research, and analyses to guide and support others within RFN.
- Engage in frequent external communication and facilitate how RFN conveys the results from research towards the commercial sector Oversee the management and execution of research grants in the team, ensuring compliance and effective utilization of resources.
We are looking for candidates with some or all of the following qualifications:
- Relevant higher education, with equivalent experience considered in place of formal education.
- Experience from working within or towards the private sector and with NGOs on related issues.
- Strong understanding of global drivers of deforestation, forest degradation, and human rights violations by commercial actors.
- Understanding of European political systems and how regulations drive the commercial demand for deforestation-causing commodities.
- Proven ability to collect and analyze relevant data in a structured and organized manner.
- Self-driven with creative problem-solving skills and demonstrated strategic thinking and advocacy abilities.
- Persuasive communication skills and the ability to engage in dialogue in diverse and multicultural environments, networking effectively with targeted groups.
- A team player mindset, supporting other team members in their projects and sharing knowledge within the organization.
- Experience in managing research grants and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. Fluency in written and verbal English is required. Proficiency in Norwegian, German, French, and rainforest country languages is an asset.
