The Florida Department of Corrections is the largest state agency in Florida and the third largest correctional agency in the country supervising and caring for around 250,000 inmates and offenders. Correctional Officers oversee and monitor the activities of the inmates in living areas, recreation activities areas, dining areas and visitation areas. While coordinating and monitoring inmate movements, conducting counts and providing emergency response as needed all while maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
As a recruit, you will attend a 12-week academy to prepare you for a career as a correctional officer. Courses including firearms training, defensives tactics, first aid, and more. Upon completion of the academy recruits will be required to take the State Officer Certification Exam.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
· Be at least 18 years of age
· Be a citizen of the United States
· Have earned a high school diploma or its equivalent
· No felony convictions
· Not have received a dishonorable discharge from the armed forces
· Have a valid driver license
· Pass a medical examination and drug test
· Good moral character
