The Deck Crane Operator is responsible for operating deck-mounted cranes on vessels or offshore platforms, ensuring the safe lifting, movement, and placement of cargo or equipment. This role requires precision, attention to safety protocols, and the ability to work in coordination with other crew members. The operator must be familiar with maritime regulations, equipment handling procedures, and emergency protocols to ensure smooth crane operations, whether the vessel is at sea or in port.
Key Responsibilities:

• Operate deck cranes to load, unload, and move cargo, containers, or equipment on the vessel.
• Perform pre-operation checks on the crane and lifting equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and safely.
• Monitor lifting operations to ensure that loads are handled safely and securely, preventing accidents or damage.
• Work closely with crew members, riggers, and other personnel to coordinate crane movements.
• Follow safety guidelines and procedures, ensuring the protection of the crew, cargo, and vessel.
• Record lifting activities, including load weights, equipment condition, and operational notes in ship logs.
• Maintain and inspect cranes regularly, identifying any wear, damage, or needed repairs, and report issues to the ship’s engineer or maintenance team.
• Ensure crane stability and operational limits are respected, especially during rough sea conditions or while navigating ports.
• Adhere to maritime safety regulations and participate in safety drills and emergency response procedures.
• Assist in securing cargo after lifting to ensure its safety during transit.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous experience as a crane operator, preferably on offshore platforms or ships.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid crane operator certification, maritime certifications, and familiarity with offshore or maritime regulations.
• Skills: Proficiency in crane operations, understanding of load limits, and ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
• Physical Requirements: Must be physically fit, capable of working in rough sea conditions, and able to handle physical tasks.
• Communication: Strong communication skills to coordinate operations with the ship’s crew.
