North Star Meat Merchants Inc., a leading supplier of fresh and frozen pork and beef products in the Philippines, is looking for a highly skilled **Food Processing Plant Manager** to oversee the operations of our state-of-the-art food processing plant. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the plant’s daily activities, ensuring efficiency in production processes, maintaining product quality, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plant Operations Management
- Oversee and manage all aspects of the food processing plant’s operations, including production planning, scheduling, and workflow optimization.
- Monitor and ensure the efficient operation of equipment, labor, and materials to meet production targets while minimizing waste and costs.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to maintain operational efficiency and safety.
2. Product Quality & Food Safety
- Ensure that all products meet North Star’s high standards for quality and safety, adhering to both local and international food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
- Regularly conduct quality control checks and audits to identify areas for improvement and to maintain consistency in product standards.
- Lead the development of quality assurance programs to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
3. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of supervisors, line operators, and staff, promoting a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Manage workforce scheduling and provide training on safety protocols, equipment operation, and best practices.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment focused on employee engagement and retention.
4. Production & Capacity Planning
- Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and sales departments to ensure the timely and cost-effective supply of raw materials and delivery of finished products.
- Monitor production metrics and KPIs, adjusting processes as necessary to meet demand while maintaining efficiency.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize plant capacity and throughput.
5. Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with local labor laws, food safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Implement and monitor workplace safety programs, ensuring that all plant employees adhere to safety protocols and practices to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Regularly review and update safety plans and plant policies to align with changing regulations or internal standards.
6. Budgeting & Cost Control
- Manage the plant’s budget, including monitoring expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising product quality.
- Track and manage inventory levels, minimizing waste while ensuring adequate stock of raw materials and packaging.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies and capital investments for plant upgrades or expansions.
7. Reporting & Communication
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on plant performance, including production output, quality control metrics, efficiency improvements, and labor utilization.
- Maintain clear and open communication with key stakeholders, including procurement, sales, logistics, and executive teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- At least 5-7 years of experience managing a food processing plant, preferably within the meat or food industry.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety standards, regulations (HACCP, GMP), and manufacturing best practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience in developing and motivating teams.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in production planning, budgeting, and cost control.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
