Overview:

The USAID-funded ABC+: Advancing Basic Education in the Philippines project is currently seeking for three ABC+ Materials Production Consultants. The project works with the Government of the Philippines to support improved literacy in mother-tongue, numeracy, and social and emotional learning (SEL) in grades K-3. The project outcomes will include improved education system capacity to manage and implement interventions supporting effective early grade instruction. The project will target Regions V (Bicol) and VI (Western Visayas), BARMM, some parts of NCR, CAR, Region IV-B, and Region XII.

The Learning Materials Production Consultants will primarily work with ABC+ Materials Development team to provide technical support on the upcoming reprinting of EGRMs in Filipino and in English in Metro Manila. They will ensure the quality and accuracy of the books to the specifications and requirements of ABC+ and Dep Ed from pre-printing through pre-delivery.

Responsibilities:

The Learning Materials Production Consultants will be assigned to support to Learning Materials Development (LMD) team. They will support in the production and printing of the EGRMs in Filipino and in English:

Counter check proofs against Dep Ed-approved books to ensure accuracy and completeness
Check the consistency and completeness of the book components
Proofread materials to identify any grammatical and spelling errors against signed-off copies and the digital proofs
Check quality of printing, paper, trimming, binding, and lamination to the required specifications
- Color accuracy and consistency
- no grainy images
- CMYK correctly hit the target spots
- No visual defects such as smudges, doubling, scumming, and
- wrinkling
- - no cutting lines shown, no text or image is cut off, no uncut pages
- Pages are correctly sequenced
- No incorrect folding
- - should not be see-through, texts or image from the other page should not be visible
- Properly stitched/glued
- Properly laminated
Prepare allocation lists using the template provided by ABC+
Conduct inspection of materials prior to delivery, ensuring books are correctly allocated, packed/boxed, and labeled
During inspection, ensure adherence of sample books to printing, paper, trimming, binding, and lamination to ABC+ specifications
Prepare a report on the findings from the inspections

Period of Performance

The period of performance is a short engagement equivalent to 30 Level of Effort (LOE) days with activities starting on October 2024 to January 2025. All work must be scheduled to be completed within this timeframe. Any modifications or extensions shall be requested through RTI’s and Learning Materials Development team for review and discussion.

Place of Performance

The Learning Materials Production Consultants will be working in Pasig City, but there will be times they will be asked to report in the printing site, particularly during inspection of books prior to delivery.

Qualifications:

Experience in publishing and printing of K-3 learning materials, such as textbooks, magazines, and storybooks
Equipped with basic knowledge how publishing works, including editorial stages, production, and printing
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Publishing, or related field
With experience in language editing, copyediting, and proofreading, typesetting is an advantage.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under tight deadlines
Keen eye for aesthetics and details and is meticulous in spotting errors and ensuring content is polished and accurate
Is knowledgeable in software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Adobe In Design, and other similar applications
Familiarity with the use of online platforms such Zoom
Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.
Capability to manage multiple tasks; with strong organization skills
Must be professionally proficient and fluent in written and spoken Filipino and English
With strong internet connectivity at home, preferably fiber or home wifi connection
With laptop computer complete with accessories such as webcam, earphone with mic;
With at least one smartphone or mobile phone with internet connectivity (android/i OS).
