We are seeking an experienced AWS Data Engineer to join our dynamic cloud team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data engineering, extensive experience with AWS services, and a solid understanding of the financial services sector, particularly within investment banking.


In this role, you'll play a critical role in the delivery of AWS Data work with our banking clients. You'll support both Blue Sky and client collegaues and will be entrusted with quality and timeous delivery.


Key Responsibilities:


Data Engineering:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and architectures on AWS.
• Utilize AWS services such as AWS Glue, AWS Athena, and other data engineering tools to process and analyze large datasets.
• Implement data quality checks and ensure data integrity across various data sources.
• Optimize data workflows for performance and cost-efficiency.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior data engineers.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and AWS advancements to continuously improve our data engineering practices.

Delivery Leadership:

• Define high-level solution design options based on client requirements.
• Create design standards and patterns reusable in a client’s solution.
• Experience in rapid prototyping of potential solutions for design trade-discussions.
• Mentor and train junior members of the team.
• Complete code reviews of team members.
• Provide accurate breakdown and estimations of tasks for solutions.
• Ability to pick up and learn new technology quickly.

Engineering:

• Define a structured approach to problem-solving.
• Complete data models and designs within client’s architecture and standards.
• Understand complex business environments and requirements and design solutions based on leading practices.
• Document design and solutions for understanding by client product owners.
• Complete deliverables for gaining architectural approval at the client.
• Understand Data Ops approach to solution architecture.
• Solid experience in data and SQL is required.

Technical:

• Demonstrate experience in database and database development. Experience in other areas is a bonus.

Database:

• SAP Hana, Teradata, SQL Server, No SQL (Hbase, Cassandra, or Mongo DB), Cloud-Based Databases (Hive, Cosmos DB, Dynamo DB).

Database Development:

• Experience with views, functions, stored procedures, optimization of queries, building indexes, OLAP/MDX.
• No SQL (Dynamo DB), Cloud-Based Databases and data warehouses (Redshift, Document DB, Dynamo DB).

Cloud:

• AWS.
• Experience with other hyperscalers is a nice-to-have

Ia C:

• proficient in Ia C tools such as Terraform, AWS CDK and Cloud Formation
• able to build CICD pipeline for data processes and automation of infrastructure provisioning

ETL:

• SSIS, IBM Data Stage, SAP Data Services, Informatica or similar, Redshift, Sagemaker.
• Redshift, Lake Formation, AWS Glue, Glue Crawler and Schema creation.

Programming:

• SQL (TSQL/HQL etc.), Java, Python, Spark/Kafka/Rabbit MQ, UNIX & Shell Commands (Python/shell/Perl) is a plus.

Modelling:

• Data Vault (preferred), Kimball (preferred), 3rd Normal Form/OLAP/MDX.

Big Data:

• Hadoop Platform (Cloudera/cloud equivalent), Hive QL/Spark/Oozie/Impala/Pig, Optimizing Big Data, Streaming (Ni Fi/Kafka).

Methodologies:

• Agile, PMBOK, Data Ops/Dev Ops.

Data Acquisition:

• Pipeline creation, automation, and data delivery (Once off, CDC, Streaming).

Behavioral:

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to develop and grow technical teams.
• Objective-oriented with a strong client delivery focus.
• Client-focused by building strong trusting relationships with clients.
• Focus on quality and risk.
• Sound problem-solving ability.
• Ability to understand and comprehend complex environments and systems.
• Inquisitive by nature and keen to figure out how things work.

Qualifications:
Minimum:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3 - 5 years of working experience with client-facing experience.

Preferred:

• Post Graduate Degree in Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Data-related cloud certifications
