Jika Uluntu NPC is currently seeking an inspired and adaptable Child Services Mentor to join our mission of safeguarding and uplifting children across South Africa. Role and Responsibilities
As a Child Services Mentor, you will be at the heart of our mission to protect and nurture young children, ensuring their safety, growth, and development both within our community center, in their homes, and within the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead positive parenting training for adolescents and their caregivers, empowering families with practical skills.
· Mentor and support households through personalized programs and home visits, reinforcing positive outcomes.
· Oversee and foster the success of parenting clubs, creating strong networks of mutual support.
· Strengthen children’s development through organized sports and creative activities.
· Provide psychosocial support and counseling through home-based and group sessions.
· Help children build confidence by training them to view themselves positively and with self-worth.
· Amplify children's voices, ensuring they are heard and respected within their communities.
· Teach self-regulation and intrinsic motivation to empower children to navigate challenges with resilience.
· Offer training in psychological first aid, preparing communities to respond to trauma with care.
· Actively identify and support children who may be experiencing neglect, ensuring they receive the protection they need.
· Educate teachers and community leaders on the impact of violence against children and the importance of safeguarding laws.
· Collaborate with the Department of Social Development to ensure the highest standards of child protection in the community.
· Build partnerships with other nonprofit organizations to enhance child protection outcomes.
· Engage with caregivers through online platforms, offering parenting skills and continuous mentorship.
Minimum Requirements
· Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Child & Youth Care Work, or related field.
· Minimum 2 years of experience in community development and facilitation.
· Registration with the SACSSP, HPCSA, or relevant regulatory body.
· A background as a facilitator, assessor, or moderator is an advantage.
· Proven leadership, management, and team-building abilities, inspiring others to achieve their potential.
· Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse stakeholders.
· Familiarity with child protection laws, government policies, and experience collaborating with government and donors.
· Strong data literacy with the ability to collect and analyze both qualitative and quantitative data.
· Proficiency in Microsoft365.
· Fluent in English and Isi Xhosa, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Own transport is required.
