Life Choices Academy was established at the end of 2017 and aims to equalise the skills gap in South Africa by providing coding boot camps to youth from underprivileged backgrounds. Our team has a niche skill set that is at the intersection of technical skills and teaching/mentorship abilities. To work in this role, you must be excited at the prospect of helping youth to begin a career in tech. You must feel strongly about improving the quality of coding education, and be highly motivated to see your students succeed, knowing that your work is creating a real impact on the lives of people.

Pay: R15 000,00 - R20 000,00 per month

The Roles and Responsibilities will be:
- Course Delivery: Deliver high-quality bootcamp course content through lectures and tutorial sessions, ensuring students grasp key concepts. Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the curriculum, ensuring relevance to industry trends.
- Project Assessment: Review and assess students' module projects, providing comprehensive and constructive feedback to support their learning and growth. Maintain accurate records of student performance and assessments.
- Student Progress Monitoring: Oversee students' progress and performance on a monthly basis, guiding them through their academic journey to graduation. Support students during their internship placements when requested, including preparing progress reports and communicating with relevant stakeholders.
- Guidance, Mentorship and Support: Provide personalised guidance, support, and mentorship to students. Implement remedial action plans for students requiring additional help.
- Retention and Completion Strategies: Identify and implement strategies to improve student retention, completion, and graduation rates.
- Collaboration and Professional Development: Participate in staff meetings, and workshops where needed. Engage with industry experts to ensure course content remains relevant to industry trends
- Subject Matter Expertise: Teach both frontend and backend software development, with a focus on creating and deploying web applications using platforms like Netlify, Repl.it, Heroku, and other relevant technologies.
- Continuous Professional Development: Stay up to date with the latest coding languages, tools, and teaching methodologies by attending training or professional development opportunities.
- 1 to 4 years of experience
- Diploma/ IT certification/degree in IT/Computer Science (preferable but not essential)
- Training, teaching or facilitating experience advantageous
- In-depth understanding of the entire software development process (design, development and deployment)
- Solid proficiency in HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Java Script, Python with Vue JS and Node.js, Express, My SQL
- Familiarity with software development tools like Git, CVS
- Knowledge of other open-source programming languages advantageous
- Knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL and APEX advantageous
- Passionate
- Patient
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A passion for youth development
- Experience in facilitation is preferable
- Strong technical knowledge is essential
