Role purpose:

Responsible for the commercial function, the role would translate the Group Commercial Business Unit (CBU) Strategy and support the Commercial agenda of Segments, Devices, CVM, Digital & Content across the 8 Country Operations to drive business growth, drive synergies across countries and drive market share. The role will therefore provide support, guidance, strategic input and recommendations to the operating companies (Op Cos) and also create communities where interdependent functions interface.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Deliver revenue / revenue market share and consumer P&L
• Providing guidance, analysis, and feedback on strategies
• Creating and sharing best practice across Op Cos
• Deliver the digital roadmap including taking the leadership in rolling out the smartphone strategy, digital content, key partnerships, and data monetization.
• Consulting on CVM, Business Intelligence modes, Products and Pricing, Terminals, and Roaming tariffs
• Direct and coordinate commercial units maximize investment and increase efficiency.
• Confer with Op Co Exco and if required board members and stakeholders to discuss issues, coordinate activities to resolve problems.
• Analyze commercial operations to evaluate performance in meeting objectives or to determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
• Direct, plan, and implement policies, objectives, or activities to ensure continuing operations, to maximize returns on investments..
• Direct activities of business units with pricing, products and related commercial activities
• Work along with human resource experts to support activities including resourcing and retention, talent, capability development and change management.
• Monitor and report on the commercial business performance along with team finance of all the subsidiary companies.
• Work with Op Cos to deliver solutions that leverage on existing Group/Vodafone-wide knowledge and experience.
• Direct/focus centres of excellence and shared services to deliver a coordinated/holistic result to Op Cos
• Mentor and support development opportunities for commercial experts and talented employees across all Op Cos through rotational programmes and project-based assignments
• Support performance dialogue and talent review processes through personal time investment and company resources
• Take responsibility for own development.
• Remain up to date and knowledgeable about the macro-economy and telecoms sector of all markets.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical/professional qualifications:

• Qualified with postgraduate professional experience MSc or MBA (preferred)
• University Graduate or equivalent in an engineering or business discipline
• Seasoned business management experience with minimum of 10 years’ experience operating at Executive / Director level in a telecommunications related industry
• Solid track record of applying commercial judgement to achieve effective results.
• In-depth knowledge of company business and market developments
• Extensive knowledge of the Telecom sector
• Extensive knowledge of the Internet sector
• Combines commercial breadth and technical depth to take a global perspective in the development and interpretation of corporate strategic plans.

Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:

• Understanding of competitive offerings and industry trends.
• Ability to interpret trends and translate into strategy and product & proposition design features and functions that can support business growth opportunities.
• Proven expertise in Data monetization, & Digital strategy with specific knowledge on Devices, Content, OTT partnerships, CVM and digital transformation
• Strong communicator, written and oral presentations and the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively, think strategically and implement tactically with proven business skills.
• Comprehensive understanding of the ICT sector and in particular the Commercial and Technical interdependencies
• Africa and prepaid market expertise
