Du Toit Yacht Design (DTYD) is South Africa's leading naval architecture firm, specialising in the design of yachts and small crafts for both leisure and commercial purposes. With a rich history of over 120 projects since 2001, including 30 custom and production catamarans, we are renowned for delivering high-quality work that exceeds our clients' expectations. We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Yacht Designer to join our award-winning team. This is a rare opportunity to work with a global leader in the design of custom and semi-custom power and sailing catamarans, with vessels that have won internationally recognised awards.
The ideal candidate will have a solid project history in yacht or vessel design, demonstrate a keen eye for detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with others. You will be responsible for leading yacht design projects and collaborating with a team of designers, working directly with clients, and ensuring that our high standards are met on every project. You will report to the General Manager and play a role in developing our team and maintaining our reputation for excellence.

Experience:

Key responsibilities:
- Lead innovative yacht and vessel design projects from concept to completion, including mechanical systems, hull design, propulsion systems, and structural analysis.
- Coordinate and collaborate with a team of designers, fostering a positive team environment.
- Work closely with clients to understand and realise their vision, managing relationships with professionalism and empathy.
- Produce accurate 2D working drawings and detailed 3D models to company standards.
- Collaborate with marine production facilities and boat owners to meet project objectives and maintain quality.
- Degree or diploma in Yacht Design, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or Industrial Design.
- Extensive experience in yacht and vessel design, with a solid portfolio showcasing your work.
- Proficiency in 2D CAD drawing (Auto CAD or similar) and 3D CAD modelling (Catia, NX, Pro E, Solid Works or similar).
- Attention to detail and strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring team members.
- Familiarity with the yachting and boating industry, with a passion for innovative design.
