Job Introduction
Rakuten Advertising seeks a highly motivated individual with deep expertise and a strong network in APAC, with a particular focus on South Korea, Southeast Asia, and India, to join our expanding team as a Client Development Manager. This role is pivotal to the APAC sales team’s success, focusing on cultivating relationships with key decision-makers among Asia’s largest e-commerce companies, premier brands, digital advertisers, and agencies to exceed revenue targets. The role also involves collaborating with the APAC commercial team to establish Rakuten Advertising’s presence in South Korea while managing sales opportunities across Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and India.
Your primary responsibilities include sourcing new business, managing both inbound and outbound opportunities, and supporting the Commercial Director in go-to-market strategies to elevate Rakuten Advertising’s brand presence and achieve ambitious revenue goals. Attendance at industry events to enhance the company's profile and foster relationships is also a key aspect of the role. The ideal candidate will have a proven record in affiliate marketing and sales, a strong industry network, and the ability to design and implement effective sales strategies.
Responsibilities
Sales:
- Generate revenue opportunities, build client relationships, and implement sales plans to exceed monthly and annual goals.
- Identify, qualify, pitch, and close new business with direct advertisers.
- Conduct high-volume sales activities, including cold calls, presentations, and proposals.
- Represent Rakuten Advertising at trade shows, seminars, and industry events.
- Create and deliver strategic presentations.
- Drive the acquisition of major new accounts within timely sales cycles while maintaining an active pipeline.
- Surpass all sales and revenue targets.
- Travel as required to support business goals (client/prospect meetings, conferences, and internal meetings).
- Lead sales strategies and execution for Rakuten Advertising’s affiliate business in the APAC market.
- Foster deep strategic partnerships with advertisers and agencies to promote Rakuten Advertising’s solutions.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Director and senior stakeholders to ensure product development aligns with market requirements.
- Monitor competitor activity and market trends for strategic insights.
- Develop strategies aligned with client objectives and KPIs.
- Participate in sales and account management activities and industry events.
- Concentrate on acquiring new top-tier clients for Rakuten Advertising’s affiliate solutions.
- Build and nurture relationships with regional and local contacts within the marketing and digital teams of major e-commerce firms and digital advertisers throughout APAC, focusing particularly on South Korea, Southeast Asia, China, Taiwan, and India.
Technical/Functional Expertise:
- 5+ years of direct strategic sales experience in a consultative environment targeting large companies, direct brands, and/or agencies.
- 3+ years of experience in affiliate and/or digital ad sales.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
- Proficiency in Chinese, with Hindi or other Asian languages considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated success in consultative selling with a track record of surpassing revenue targets.
- Strong negotiation and closing capabilities.
- Experience in selling ad-tech, mar-tech, or software solutions to C-level executives.
- Background in Multi-branded Retail, Luxury, and Travel verticals is advantageous.
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency in market analysis and data interpretation.
- Familiarity with CRM systems, ideally Salesforce.
- Strong skills in Excel and Power Point for client-facing reports and presentations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- Self-motivated, independent, and quick to learn and contribute.
- Excellent knowledge and relationships in digital sales.
- Capable of multi-product and service solution selling.
- Exceptional negotiation, sales, and presentation abilities.
- Established relationships with senior/CMO-level buying contacts.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, oral, and written communication skills.
- Confidence in communicating with internal and external executives.
- Proven lead generation track record that exceeds sales quotas.
- Strong planning, communication, negotiation, and closing skills.
- Persistent and diligent work ethic in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial setting.
- Ability to drive clarity and successful outcomes for clients and the business.
- High commercial awareness and acumen.
- Thorough knowledge of performance marketing technologies and the programmatic landscape.
- Keen interest and understanding of e Commerce, media, and ad technology.
- Proficiency in English is essential.
- Fluency/native proficiency in Chinese, with knowledge of Hindi or other Asian languages as an advantage.
- Frequent travel (10-20%) across Asia, particularly in South Korea, Southeast Asia, China, and India, to support sales efforts, meet prospects, and attend industry events.
