It houses Mare Nostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for Euro HPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission


We are looking for a Data Manager who will become part of the Operations Department of the Center and participate in the activities of data management, data modelling and implementation for the Einstein Telescope Preparation Phase project (ET-PP) .


Key Duties


  • Take a leading role and collaborate with the Einstein Telescope experts for the understanding and design of the computing and data model, according to the input received by the collaboration.
  • Prepare and conduct expert workshops and discussions.
  • Collect and evaluate inputs from the ET-PP Work Packages and Boards on the requirements of the ET computing and data model, and all the needed information to update the DMP of the project.
  • Work with the ET Boards to ensure the full coherence of the model proposed, recognize weak points and express open questions about the project.
  • Work with the ET-PP partners for analyzing the impact and consequences of the computing and data model choices, like sustainability, and policy compliance. In particular: ensure the links between national CCs participating in ET, and make sure that the computing model will be compatible with the resources and future plans of these CCs.


Requirements


  • Education
    • Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or related scientific disciplines.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience in the design of data models, application of data policies, good practices, etc.
    • Experience in data management of research projects and solutions for complex and large datasets transfer, storage, analysis, distribution, exploration, etc.
    • Experience with LINUX/UNIX and bash scripting.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
    • Experience in working within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Experience working as data manager for international projects,
    • Previous experience in project management is desirable
    • Proficient written and spoken English and Spanish
  • Competences
    • Ability to work under set deadlines, delivering high-quality work.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team to complete tasks on schedule
    • Flexibility: adapting quickly and resourcefully to shifting priorities and requirements.
    • Enthusiasm for working in a scientific research environment, in an international context


Conditions


  • The position will be located at BSC within the Operations Department
  • We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
  • Starting date: November 2024
