Novicap is an end-to-end working capital solutions provider focused on enabling CFOs/Finance teams of SMEs to pay their suppliers and collect from their customers. This includes short-term credit (factoring, supply chain finance and loans) and payment automation solutions.
With offices in Barcelona and Madrid, we are currently looking for a Head of Engineering who wants to join our team. You will lead the Engineering Team with the mission to build and maintain our core platform, from ideation to deployment. Given its central role in providing working capital management solutions to SMEs, our technology is crucial to Novicap’s continued success.

What will you do?
As mentioned, you will lead the Engineering Team at Novicap. The Head of Engineering will report directly to the CEO, and be responsible for the following segments:

(i) Engineering:

• Lead the development and the execution of the Engineering strategy, working hand-in-hand with senior management to prioritise developments in alignment with broader business strategy
  
• Define, develop and maintain the software architecture with the objective to respond to business needs in the most efficient manner
  
• Evaluate critical engineering issues and take final decisions with respect to problem-solving within this area
  
• Maintain at all times the integrity of the double-entry accounting system of the platform, which accounts for movements of each counterparties on separate ledgers
  
• Take ultimate responsibility for the day-to-day functioning of the platform, coordinating safe deployments and maintenance tasks
  
• Coordinate with other teams, including Product and key business counterparts, in order to ascertain their needs and suggest the most-efficient solutions to their problems
  
• Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to ensure the platform meets the highest information and cyber security requirements (e.g. obtention of ISO 27001)
  
• Manage an Senior Engineer and an Engineering Manager, himself responsible for 4 Engineers, fostering an innovative culture
  
• Review & manage third-party vendors that are contracted by the Engineering area
  

(ii) Collaboration with Product & Data:

• Work with the Head of Product to ensure the translation of the Product strategy into Engineering strategy and execution, in alignment with the broader business strategy
  
• Take responsibility for the smooth coordination between the Product and Engineering teams, from design to development and safe development of new products and features
  
• Review & challenge the designs coming from the Product team in order to increase their efficiency while not compromising their effectiveness
  
• Lead the development and execution for a resilient data infrastructure, in order to facilitate the work of the Data Analyst

Who will you be working with?
You will report directly to the CEO, with the Lead Software Engineer and Engineering Manager reporting directly to you. You’ll work closely with the Product team and collaborate with other teams across Madrid, Barcelona, and throughout Spain. We are a young, dynamic team, eager to welcome you on board!


You are the right fit if you:

• Have a minimum 10 years of experience in CTO, CPO or back-end engineering roles in tech-focused companies. Ideally, experience in financial services or accounting software.
  
• Strong product mindset, focusing on understanding the existing infrastructure and how to efficiently build upon it, rather than developing from scratch
  
• Understanding of the basics of double-entry accounting systems, using multiple ledgers
  
• Ability to manage complex, data-driven projects, fostering collaboration from Engineering to Product and the various business teams involved in such projects
  
• Capacity to collaborate with external teams with respects to third-party integrations via API or others (e.g. knowledge of main ERPs)
  
• Experience with Ruby-on-Rails (or similar moderns full-stack framework), AWS, Excel
  
• Fluency in English, and high level in Spanish
