We are now looking for a Head of Engineering

We are searching for an amazing technical wizard/Scotty to lead our efforts as we build the world's best co-op games. We need someone who can own and articulate a technical vision for Arrowhead and transform it into actionable short, and long-term plans enabling us to keep making truly amazing co-op experiences. You have extensive experience with C++, game engines and, ideally, with adopting a new game engine tech stack. You will nurture the engineering culture, and streamline our processes to reduce complexity and costs across the studio. As the Head of Engineering, you will lead technical teams, ensuring that their work aligns with the project’s needs. You will also work with creatives, navigating different timelines, and lead efforts to boost technical literacy among all team members. Your job is to lead teams that enable solutions where previously none were available. “Computer says yes!”. While your expertise is rooted in technical leadership, you also have a strong grasp of the business principles driving the studio's success. You know when to stand firm and when to compromise and when to think creatively to solve problems and drive product value.

Responsibilities:

• Plan & lead execution of tech roadmap
• Lead the technical training and education efforts within the studio
• Collaboration with key external partners
• Build & restructure sound high level processes for facilitating technical excellence

Manage & lead managers in tech disciplines

• Recruit and develop great technical teams

Good output:

• Leads a team of leaders who consistently deliver on great game experiences - including stability, health of game builds, UX experience and contractual deliverables
• Achieves results through others
• Strategic collaborator and visionary for the tech at Arrowhead as a senior leader of the company.
• Ability to inspire and rally troops around a shared vision and mission
• Skilled in external stakeholder management, with the ability to pitch and negotiate with existing partners as well as possible investors and new partners
• Finding out of the box solutions whilst working proactively
• Raises technical literacy across all disciplines in the company
• Identifies leveraged solutions for greater impact and collaborates effectively together with production to rally technical leaders in utilizing outsourcing and co-development
• Lead teams that enable efficient implementation of excellent gameplay experiences
• Creates long term strategy and builds the foundation that will endure for future games
• Maintains a high-performing team through excellence in talent management, including hiring, developing, and retaining key talent.
• Inspires and promotes a positive engineering culture

Requirements - must haves:

• +10 years of experience in development, including leadership positions in the games industry or equivalent experience of shipping games from start to finish
• Proven proficiency in multiple programming languages (such as C, C++, C# and Lua)
• Demonstrated leadership experience at a senior level including strategic work
• You are knowledgeable and passionate about game development
• Proven track record helping teams to deliver timely, high-quality products
• Demonstrated experience working with a diverse set of stakeholders and can represent both possibilities and challenges in technical choices
• Ability to guide development into newer, more modern ways of developing games in the future (skynet, HAL9000 etc)
• Avid gamer

Nice to haves:

• Business experience - either in a startup environment or business responsibilities
• Experience as a public speaker (conferences, panels etc)
• Experience with the Playstation, Xbox and Nintendo ecosystems and tech
• Experience with Unreal and engine transitions

Practical Information

Scope: Full-time: 40 hours per week with initial 6 month probation period.
Location: Office first, hybrid solution possible. You need to be eligble to work in Sweden.
