Context:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Media and Communications, the Communications
Officer (Cross-Cutting) will be responsible for contributing to the development and execution of
communication strategies and projects that span across various platforms including news,
campaigns, social media, internal communications, and audiovisual (AV) content. The
Cross-Global Cutting Communications Officer (P3) will play a key role in ensuring cohesive,
multi-channel communication efforts across the Organization.

This position requires close collaboration with global, regional, and country-level teams to help
ensure consistency in messaging and to amplify the Organization’s visibility on the global stage.
The role involves managing cross-cutting communication activities that align with the
Organization’s strategic priorities, enhance engagement with stakeholders, and strengthen
internal and external outreach efforts.


Core Functions / Responsibilities:
News and Media Relations
  • Manage, develop and disseminate news content, including press releases, statements, and
feature articles, that reflect the Organization’s work and impact.
  • Maintain strong relationships with global media outlets, journalists, and news agencies to help
ensure widespread coverage of the Organization’s activities.
  • Coordinate with regional and country offices to source and share stories that highlight the
Organization’s work in various regions, ensuring consistency in messaging.
  • Serve as a point of contact for media inquiries, providing accurate and timely responses and
organizing media briefings and interviews as necessary. Campaign Development and Execution
  • Further develop and implement global campaigns that align with the Organization’s strategic
priorities and highlight key themes and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop campaign objectives, target audiences, and
messaging, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate with the Social Media and AV teams to create integrated, cross-channel campaigns
that utilize both digital and traditional media.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of campaigns, using analytics and feedback to assess reach,
engagement, and impact, and recommend adjustments to strategies as needed. Social Media Management
  • Provide expert technical support for the execution of a global social media strategy that
enhances the Organization’s online presence and engagement.
  • Recommend improvements that ensure a consistent voice, brand identity, and alignment with
broader communication objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media team to assist in creating platform-specific content, including
posts, videos, and infographics, tailored to diverse audiences.
  • When required, monitor social media conversations, trends and sentiment, and recommend
responses to opportunities and challenges that maintain a positive online reputation. Internal Communications
  • Maintain clear, consistent, and effective information flow between Headquarters, Regional
Offices, and Country Offices through internal communication processes.
  • Assist in the production of internal communication materials such as newsletters, intranet
content, and internal announcements that ensure organizational cohesion.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure key messages are communicated effectively
across all levels.
  • Help organize internal campaigns and events, including town halls and staff engagement
activities, that keep employees informed and motivated.

Audiovisual (AV) Content Production
  • Follow up on high-quality AV content, including videos, documentaries, and multimedia
presentations, that showcase the Organization’s work.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to create engaging and impactful
audiovisual materials that support campaigns, events, and news stories.
  • Liaise with Director of DMC regarding adherence of AV content to the Organization’s brand
guidelines and broader communication goals. Cross-Channel Communication Coordination
  • Work closely with regional and country offices to align communication efforts, providing
guidance and support to ensure consistency and coherence.
  • Recommend protocols for content sharing and collaboration across teams to enhance the
efficiency and impact of communication efforts. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
  • Support in the implementation mechanisms to measure the effectiveness of communication
activities across all channels.
  • Regularly analyze communication data and metrics to assess audience engagement, message
reach, and overall impact.
  • Provide detailed reports on the performance of news, campaigns, social media, internal
communications, and AV content, identifying areas for improvement and recommending
strategic adjustments.
  • Use insights from monitoring and evaluation to help inform future communication strategies
and the enhancement of overall communication effectiveness. Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
  • Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Digital Media, or a related
field from an accredited academic institution with five years of relevant professional experience;
or,
  • University degree in the above fields with seven years of relevant professional experience.
Experience
  • Proven experience in managing cross-cutting communication strategies that include news,
campaigns, social media, internal communications, and AV content; and,
  • Experience with social media management, analytics, and content creation for digital
platforms. Skills
  • Strong writing, editing, and content development skills, with a demonstrated ability to craft
clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences; and,
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced
environment.

Languages
IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be
fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another
official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process,
which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile.
