Our Corporate HSEC and Human Rights Department in the Headquarters in Baar/Switzerland is looking for a Corporate Head of Health & Safety. You will be working in a highly dynamic, diverse, and fast paced international environment with the opportunity to help shape the Health and Safety strategy. You will need to develop key working relationships with other team members in Glencore to contribute to the development and improvement of Health and Safety systems and performance to meet regulatory, industry best practice and internal corporate requirements

The Role:
Strategy and Leadership
  • Oversee the implementation of our Health and Safety Strategy and Safe Work 2.0 program which is our approach to eliminating fatalities and serious injuries.
  • Advise, support and assist Industrial Leads, HSEC Leads and Asset managers & supervisors in the implementation of Glencore health and safety policies and FHPs.
  • Demonstrate a highly visible on-site presence and commitment to implementation of policies, strategy, standards, systems, processes and interactions.
  • Encourage a culture of safety in the workplace by rolling out safety programs and adhering to HSEC & Human Rights policies for sustained vigilance.

People
  • Provide good leadership to promote a high-performance culture, role modelling and reinforcing the behaviours that will underpin the success of the operation.
  • Actively participate in talent management and create the depth of necessary skills for current and future people requirements across the health and safety field.
  • Coach and mentor Senior Management.

Operational Performance
  • Catastrophic Hazard Management and Risk Management
    • Oversight of the catastrophic hazard management program including development of Group Bowties, CC and performance specifications.
    • Work with Head of ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) to monitor effectiveness of the controls through site visits and provide relevant updates and information to Senior Management Team as required.
  • Management Systems:
    • Develop, implement and manage Glencore Corporate H&S systems (Polices, FHP, Safework 2.0, Procedures).
    • Ensure robust systems for reporting, investigation, notification and recording of incidents and ‘near misses’ are in place.
  • Crisis Management /Emergency Response:
    • Provide assurance to industrial leads, Glencore senior management and the Board HSEC Committee via site visits that systems and process are in place and effective.
    • Conduct regular assessment against the our safety program Safe Work 2.0; and Identify areas for improvement in Departments Assurance plans.
  • Crisis Management /Emergency Response:
    • Support the management of the Glencore Crisis Management system.
    • Support the annual Glencore Crisis Exercise.
  • Reporting:
    • Assist in the Monthly, Quarterly and Annual reporting both internal and external.
    • Review all fatal events and HPRI’s. Manage log including lessons learnt and mandatory actions;
    • Review corrective actions associated with PMC4 &PMC5 events.
  • Costs/ Budget:
    • Develop and manage the H&S budget and monitor performance against budget.

Technical Experience:
  • Degree level Qualification (health & safety discipline and/ or mining, engineering, metallurgy) and sound knowledge/training in ISO1900 and ISO 45001.
  • Minimum of 20 years relevant experience and familiarity in the mining sector.
  • Operational line management experience and experience in designing and implementing safety systems.
  • International experience in multinational organisations, with significant operational and corporate experience.
  • Understanding of international standards such as ILO, UN principles, IFC and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Sound analytical, report and standard writing skills.
  • Experience planning and implementing assurance activities.
  • Good communication and relationship building skills.
