Senior Animal Health Specialist

Strengthen the integrated surveillance program for priority zoonotic diseases in collaboration with the Coordinating Unit for One Health (CUOH), Ministry of Public Health, and other relevant departments.

In collaboration with the Epi C Thailand GHS Manager, work with CUOH and partners to review and analyze the status of current surveillance systems for zoonotic diseases, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.

In collaboration with partners, improve an evidence-based Integrated Surveillance Program (ISP) that includes public health, animal health, and wildlife sectors.

Arrange for the oversight of the establishment and governance of the ISP Technical Working Group (ISP-TWG) to ensure multi-sectoral coordination.

Provide technical assistance to project-supported sites and partners on animal health surveillance and disease control, including the design and delivery of training workshops.

Strengthen human resources capacity at national and subnational levels on integrated surveillance systems, especially for zoonotic diseases such as bat-borne diseases and Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).

Develop frameworks and protocols for early detection, notification, and response to zoonotic diseases, focusing on risk analysis and modeling.

Facilitate collaboration among key stakeholders including CUOH, Department of Disease Control (DDC), Department of Livestock Development (DLD), Department of National Parks (DNP), and local academic institutions.

Lead consultative meetings and workshops to ensure alignment between national and subnational partners on zoonotic disease priorities.

Support CUOH in piloting integrated surveillance systems in priority provinces (e.g., Nakhon Sawan and Chonburi) and ensure effective data sharing among relevant sectors.

Contribute to the development of monitoring tools and the assessment of the 7-1-7 framework performance goals to improve early detection and response times.

Collaborate with the project’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to track progress and outcomes related to animal health components of the work plan.

Advanced degree in Veterinary Science, Animal Health, Epidemiology, or related field.
-
At least 5-7 years of experience in animal health, zoonotic disease surveillance, or One Health initiatives, preferably in Thailand or Southeast Asia.

Proven expertise in zoonotic disease management, surveillance system design, and capacity building.

Strong knowledge of Thailand’s animal health systems and policies.
-
Experience working with international development agencies, particularly USAID-funded programs.
-
Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 30% within Thailand, as needed.
