What is the opportunity?

Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) consultancy teams provide expert guidance to clients, helping them to set and deliver ESG strategies at every stage of the property lifecycle. Our 24 month programme provides you with the opportunity to gain experience from four five-month placements within the ESG Consultancy Group before focussing on an agreed pathway in the second year to gain a greater depth of understanding. This will provide you with unique knowledge of sustainability across the whole property lifecycle:

Investor ESG Strategy – Strategic approach to delivering ESG across property portfolios considering the commercial, environmental, and social sustainability priorities of investor clients.
Occupier Sustainability – Supporting occupier clients to develop and deliver ESG strategies relevant to their business. Leading CBRE’s own net zero journey and providing health and wellbeing certifications.
Risk & Resilience – Conducting holistic environmental risk assessments associated with land contamination, physical climate risk, energy performance standards, and net zero transition risk, to advise and inform real estate investors and investment managers as part of the transactional due diligence process. As well as undertaking detailed climate change risk assessments for occupier clients.
Sustainable Development Advisory – Building level sustainability strategy, performance appraisal and certification expertise across new developments, major refurbishment and existing assets. Considers holistic sustainability solutions across key thematic areas including whole life carbon, health and wellbeing, resource use, climate resilience and construction practices.

We will help you to gain relevant professional accreditation to reflect your field of career development. Typical accreditation would be through the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA).

What will you be doing?
  • Your role will typically include a variety of desk based tasks, as well as external site work. The balance of this work will vary depending on the rotation.
  • Day to day activities and responsibilities will include project tracking, conducting site visits, attending client meetings, undertaking research, collating data, evidence validation, and preparing reports and presentations.
  • You will be learning about key ESG regulations, benchmarking and standards and how they connect within real estate.
  • Work will vary between short, and medium to long term projects depending on the rotation and will predominantly be focused on commercial (e.g. office and retail) and industrial buildings;
  • The graduate scheme offers periods of fast paced learning, which benefit from a proactive approach and good communication skills to navigate.
  • To maximise learning, we ask all of our next generation cohort to be in the office on each of their working days
  • You may from time to time be required to work additional hours as is necessary

What you will need in order to succeed
  • A forward-thinking and enthusiastic individual with a passion for real estate & the built-environment.
  • Self-motivated with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic and proactive with a positive attitude.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and good time management.
  • The successful candidate must, by the start of the employment, have permission to work in the UK.
  • Students will need a relevant degree discipline (achieved or on track) at grade 2:1 or above. All degrees with Environmental Science/Management, Earth Science, Climate Science, Sustainability, and ESG elements will be considered. Preference will be given to students with Earth and Climate Science, Real Estate knowledge, Maths or Data skills.
  • Good MS Office skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point*
  • Not an essential requirement for the role, but desired
