We are looking for these qualifications
Essential:
- Relevant professional qualification in sensory impairment, rehabilitation, a related field, or lived experience.
- Proven experience in conducting sensory assessments and developing support plans.
- Strong knowledge of visual and hearing impairments and their impact on individuals.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in using assistive technologies and adaptive equipment.
- Experience working within community settings or with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and resources in the field of sensory impairments.
- Empathetic and person-centred approach to care

The Community Sensory Assessor plays a critical role in supporting individuals with visual and/or hearing impairments. This position involves conducting comprehensive sensory assessments, developing tailored support plans, and working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to enhance the quality of life and independence of individuals in the community. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sensory impairments, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to person-centred care.
This role ensures the community we support receives an excellent service that improves lives. You will report to the Service Manager and liaise regularly with stakeholders, managers, volunteers. staff and our service users. The role is varied, some of the duties include:
Assessment and Evaluation
- Conduct detailed sensory assessments for individuals with visual and/or hearing impairments.
- Evaluate the functional impact of sensory loss on daily living activities.
- Identify the needs, abilities, and preferences of individuals through face-to-face consultations, home visits, and virtual assessments.
- Develop and implement personalised support plans based on assessment findings.
- Provide recommendations for assistive technology, environmental adaptations, and rehabilitative services.
- Ensure support plans are person-centred, promoting independence and enhancing quality of life.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and external agencies.
- Advocate for individuals' needs and rights within the community and support access to appropriate services.
- Liaise with family members, carers, and other stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to care and support.
- Provide training and guidance to individuals, families, and carers on managing sensory impairments.
- Stay updated on best practices, technological advancements, and legislative changes related to sensory impairments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, support plans, and interventions.
- Prepare detailed reports and case notes for internal use and external agencies as required.
- Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and organisational policies.
Required to travel to Redbridge, Waltham Forest, and occasionally, Greenwich.
A driving license and car user is desirable but not essential.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to advance to a more senior position based on your demonstrated attributes and performance.
