Who we are
We’re not just talking about making a difference, we’re making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.
You’ll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers and business champions. We’re enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.
About the role
Cruachan Power Station, affectionately known as the ‘Hollow Mountain’, resides deep inside Ben Cruachan Mountain in Argyll and Bute. The site is one of only four pumped storage hydro stations in the UK and has a capacity of 440 MW – enough to power more than 90,000 homes.
Reporting into the Maintenance Manager, you’ll play a key role in ensuring that Cruachan Power Station remains efficient and reliable to maximise opportunities for commercial running.
Key responsibilities include:
- Routine maintenance, operations, defect investigation and repair, modifications, inspection, testing and commissioning of all electrical/ instrument equipment
- Routine inspection and maintenance, fault finding, modifications, testing and commissioning of all electrical apparatus including switchgear, motors, control panels and batteries.
- Routine inspection and maintenance, calibration, fault finding, modification, testing and commissioning of all control and instrument equipment, PLC and SCADA systems
- Assisting the Engineering teams in the processes for plant improvement and project delivery
- Assisting with the design and upgrade of existing instrument systems during planned outages
- Assist and supervise contractors with plant maintenance, modifications, testing and commissioning
- Undertaking and participating in safety, environmental and quality inspections, and audits
Who we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll hold an ONC/ HNC or equivalent in an Electrical or Control & Instrumentation engineering discipline and have demonstrable experience in operation and maintenance of rotating plant, machinery and electrical switchgear.
Additionally, you’ll need demonstrable experience with electrical, instrument & mechanical drawings, plant O&M manuals. You’ll also need good working knowledge and understanding of Control, Instrumentation and PLC systems.
Experience in the power industry is ideal but not essential.
You’ll need highly developed communications and negotiation skills and be able to form effective working relationships and persuade others to help them solve problems. You’ll also need to be a self-starter who is comfortable working independently where required.
Safety is our top priority and at the heart of everything we do. As an EC&I Technician, you’ll be an ambassador for best practice. Ideally, you’ll hold or be willing to work towards an IOSH certification.
Due to the nature of the work environment, you’ll need to be willing to work in all weather conditions, as well as be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, climbing and descending vertical access ladders, lone working, manual handling and working near water courses.

As you help us to shape the future, we’ve shaped our rewards and benefits to help you thrive and support your lifestyle:
- £47,601.75 plus £2,960.79 Additional Hours payment per annum
