Lead Systems Engineer

Leonardo has a fantastic opportunity for a Lead System Engineer.
We have a need for a specialist in Infrared Imaging (I2), someone capable of leading the technical strategy and delivery of Infrared Camera projects with a high level of autonomy, unafraid to challenge the norms, and passionate about the work they do.
Roles can be based out of our Southampton, Basildon or Bristol sites on a hybrid basis.

About the Role
The Lead Systems Engineer will work closely in the project team to define product strategy and to ensure a holistic approach to design & development. You will ensure that our delivery is compliant with customer needs and internal strategy, being responsible for the requirements, including the unit production cost (UPC) target.
- Be responsible for the design integrity of the overall solution, supported by functional domain experts, & leading the design review process for existing & future products
- Be responsible for the technical inputs to the overall product strategy and delivery of the engineering solution
- Drive expeditious & decisive resolution of issues associated with the design, negotiating across the team, production, suppliers and, where appropriate the customer
- Lead technical inputs to business winning activities
- Create, Review and Approve all top level solution documentation, including ownership of the product requirements
- Be responsible for the overall work package & risk management and delivery of the Design Authority/Systems work package; to time, to cost and to quality
About You
The successful candidate must have extensive knowledge of electro-optic systems, including Infrared Imaging systems or Infrared Cameras. Alternatively, extensive experience with visible band equivalents could be advantageous.
Attributes include;
- Extensive experience in Systems Engineering in the Electro-Optics, Infrared Imaging or Infrared Cameras domain
- Experience in leading the activities of multi-discipline engineering teams
- Excellent communication abilities, managing internal, external, engineering and non-engineering stakeholders on complex technical issues
- A track record in driving development tasks to successful outcomes, following methodologies including Design for X
- Good understanding in conducting and supporting Design Reviews of complex solutions
- Desirable Skills
- Experience of design governance, design integrity and the concept of design certification
- Experience in the Defence industry and experience across the full engineering life cycle
- Experience with business winning
- Good understanding in either Firmware or Hardware disciplines in the I2 domain
- Ideally SC cleared, or as a minimum able to attain SC clearance
