The Pre-assessment Nurse Practitioner is an autonomous practitioner who will support the Senior Charge Nurse, working closely with other Nurse Practitioner colleagues, Consultant Anaesthetists and Surgeons in managing waiting list patients attending for elective surgical and orthopaedic procedures. The Nurse Practitioner will provide a high standard of efficient, individualised patient care by carrying out a comprehensive medical assessment, physical examination and manage ongoing medical needs of elective patients to facilitate planned admission for surgery.
The purpose of this role is to assess, evaluate and then optimise the health of patients preoperatively, liaise and plan admission with the surgical / orthopaedic wards and theatres to commence discharge planning. As a Nurse Practitioner you will be expected to develop and expand the role to meet the needs of the patient and the service.
You should have substantial experience in a variety of surgical / orthopaedic settings, knowledge of the acute surgical / orthopaedic pathway is desirable. You should have completed, be working towards or be willing to undertake the Advanced Clinical Examination and Non Medical Prescribing course.
As a Nurse Practitioner you will be committed to continuous professional development and possess excellent communication and organisational skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required, demonstrate strong organisational skills and attention to detail. As an experienced nurse you will provide strong clinical support to and work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team.

- Annex 21 trainees are paid a percentage of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate which is dependent on the duration of the training period (see Terms and Conditions). Trainees are paid a percentage of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate which is dependent on the duration of the training period. Where periods of training last for between one and four years, pay will be adjusted as follows:
(ii) more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate;
Starting pay for any trainee will be no less than the rate of the Scottish Living Wage.
NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
