We are seeking applicants for an ST1-2 Trust Grade (SHO Level) position at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) in Queen Square and/or the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy. The role offers the opportunity to gain experience in various neurological subspecialties, including stroke, epilepsy, and movement disorders. Although not recognized for formal training, post-holders will have access to the same teaching sessions as CMTs. The position includes rotations between inpatient ward work and the daycare unit, with shifts covering both standard hours and on-call duties. Prior UK hospital experience in general medicine is preferred.

As part of this role, you'll manage inpatients with a range of neurological conditions, such as stroke, epilepsy, Parkinsonism, and dementia, overseeing their care from diagnosis through treatment and monitoring their progress. Your responsibilities will include rotating between inpatient ward duties and the daycare unit, conducting ward rounds, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. You’ll also participate in on-call shifts, including overnight duties at NHNN, where you will manage neurology inpatients, requiring strong clinical judgment.

Education and professional development are key aspects of the role, with daily educational sessions and protected time for MRCP PACES preparation. You will work closely with consultants and a designated educational supervisor, documenting your progress in an electronic portfolio.

In addition to clinical duties, you’ll be responsible for administrative tasks such as maintaining accurate patient records, planning discharges, and coordinating follow-up care. There may also be opportunities to engage in research and clinical audits related to epilepsy and other neurological disorders.

Strong communication skills are essential, as you will explain complex neurological conditions and treatment plans to patients and their families. Ethical and professional standards must be upheld, with an emphasis on patient confidentiality and respect for diversity. You are encouraged to pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in neurology.
