College
The College of Sciences (COS) at UTSA is committed to innovation and excellence in the classroom and laboratory and is dedicated to producing the next generation of well-educated, highly trained professionals and leaders.
COS offers 17 undergraduate degree programs and 19 graduate degree programs in the life sciences, physical sciences, computer science, and mathematics, which is supported by over 300 faculty members across 8 academic departments. COS is the UTSA's second largest college in terms of undergraduate and graduate student enrollment. In Fall 2023, it recorded its highest student enrollment in college history with 5580 undergraduate students and 610 graduate and post-baccalaureate students.
COS is major contributor to UTSA's Carnegie R1 status with its strong commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and addressing real-world challenges. COS has grown its annual research expenditures to approximately $50 million with over 300 actively funded research projects in areas like brain health, infectious disease and artificial intelligence among other fields. COS is aligned with numerous research centers and institutes, including the South Texas Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Institute, Brain Health Consortium, and the Center for Innovative Drug Discovery. COS is also a collaborator with the National Security Collaboration Center and the School of Data Science. The COS faculty have been recognized for their excellence in research and includes several NSF CAREER recipients, AAAS fellows, National Academy of Inventor members, and senior members of national and international professional societies.
COS is dedicated to student success and providing the encouragement, assistance, and superior educational experience that students will need to succeed in the sciences, health and medicine, information technology, data science, and other ventures. COS has three faculty members who received the prestigious University of Texas Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award. The COS Student Success Center (SSC) was established in Fall 2020 to serve as a hub for all student success activities within the college, including peer mentoring, academic and career development workshops, and community building events, and is dedicated to helping students build their science identity. In 2023, three COS undergraduate students received the Barry Goldwater Scholars award, which recognized their outstanding work in research in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics fields. Four COS graduate students also received the NSF's Graduate Research Fellowships to advance their graduate research education.

Department
The Department of Computer Science currently has 27 tenured/tenure-track and 25 fixed-term track faculty members, offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs, and supports more than 2,000 undergraduates, 119 master's students, and 80 Ph.D. students. It is on a significant growth trajectory. Faculty in the Department of Computer Science conduct numerous research projects with funding from a variety of federal and state agencies, and their graduate students are well-placed at leading academic and research institutions. UTSA is one of only ten institutions in the country to be designated as an NSA Center of Academic Excellence in all three distinctions of Cyber Operations, Cyber Defense, and Research. Launched in Fall 2022, the UTSA's School of Data Science (SDS) offers data-intensive degree programs and research across every discipline. Located on the Downtown Campus, the SDS has 16 research centers and institute partners, and offers 5 graduate degree programs, 2 undergraduate degree programs, and is comprised of 30 core faculty spanning disciplines from science, technology, engineering, math, business, education, and public health.

The UTSA Research Computing Support Group (RSGC) provides access to high-performance computing (HPC) architecture for researchers on campus and facilitates use of the Texas Advanced Computing Center.
The Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) is a nationally-recognized center for multidisciplinary education and development of operational capabilities in the areas of infrastructure assurance and security.
The Institute of Cyber Security (ICS) conducts basic and applied research in partnership with academia, government and industry.
The University's National Security Collaboration Center (NSCC) is creating a powerful ecosystem to engage government, industry and academia to tackle the nation's greatest cybersecurity threats.
The Open Cloud Institute (OCI) created in 2015 is part of an initiative to develop degree programs in cloud computing and big data and foster collaboration with industry, positioning UTSA and San Antonio as leaders in open cloud technology.
The Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (Cy Man II, pronounced si-man-e) introduces a cybersecure energy-ROI for energy efficient manufacturing and supply chains that secures and sustains American leadership in global manufacturing competitiveness for decades.
Position Summary
The Department of Computer Science (CS) in the College of Sciences at UTSA invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professors in our fast-evolving research focus on Cybersecurity and Privacy, which is closely aligned with UTSA's strategic plans, our Institute for Cyber Security (ICS), our Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) and the School of Data Science (SDS). Specializations of interest include network security, system security, software / hardware security, privacy protection, cryptography, machine learning, and usable security / privacy. The department is seeking candidates with experience in applying these and related specializations to create robust, secure, and trustworthy solutions that solve complex real-world problems.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform research, teaching and program development at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Candidates will demonstrate their ability to work with urban populations and support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success. The position will be provided with highly competitive start-up packages.
Qualifications
Applicants for an Assistant Professor position must earn a Ph.D. by September 1, 2025, in Computer Science or in a related field, and must demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of first generation and low-income students and be committed to assisting the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution.
