Position Summary
A Cultural Resources & GIS Technician position is being advertised with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) to provide administrative support and technical assistance for a variety of activities associated with the Sentinel Weapon system deployment and decommissioning of the Minuteman III ICBM. This position directly supports CEMML’s Cultural Resources Specialists and the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center’s Sentinel System Program Office (Sentinel SPO). Occasional travel of 1-5 nights per month is expected for this position.

Position Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS in anthropology, archaeology, GIS, or related field.
  • At least 1-year of relevant field and laboratory experience.
  • Professional experience working with a wide range of data and information, maintaining organized details, and consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Working familiarity with U.S. federal laws and regulations that govern cultural resources management
  • Demonstrated field experience with prehistoric and historic archaeological resources.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense mission, and military culture in general.
  • Have a thorough understanding of most standard computer programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Field Experience in the Plains.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated familiarity with cultural resource issues on U.S. military installations and knowledge of Department of Defense policies and processes relating to cultural resources management and government-to-government Tribal consultation.
  • Experience working in highly structured organizations such as governmental agencies or the military with clearly established lines of authority, procedures, and protocols is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing administrative tasks
  • Demonstrated experience assisting with complex projects and tracking tasks, timelines, and deliverables to ensure on-time completion.
  • Working knowledge of ESRI GIS products, and especially Hub Premium, Field Maps, and Survey 123, a plus.
  • Previous work on projects at Hill Air Force Base, UT; Malmstrom Air Force Base, MT; Minot Air Force Base, ND, or F.E. Warren Air Force Base, WY; and/or prior experience supporting the Sentinel or Minuteman III programs.

Duty/Responsibility
The Cultural Resources & GIS Technician, under the supervision of CEMML Cultural Resources Specialist, will provide administrative support and technical assistance. Primary tasks include administrative support and budget tracking; support management of project GIS systems; develop, manage, and organize cultural resources data and associated files; assist with reviewing project documents (work plans, schedules, and technical reports); track milestone dates and deadlines for plans and permits; assist with technical report reviews and revisions; assist with media and advocacy materials; process Li DAR and geospatial data; and provide technical assistance regarding regulatory compliance documentation and consultation. As a member of the Center for Environmental Management of Military Land’s (CEMML) Sentinel Cultural Resources program, adherence to the executed Programmatic Agreement is critical. This position will routinely interface with CEMML Cultural Resources Specialists and other cooperators and contractors supporting the Sentinel program.
