Immunization Surveillance Epidemiologist
(Epi 2 - non-medical)
This is a remote/home-based, full-time, Epidemiologist 2 (Non-Medical), permanent position.

What You Will Do:
We are seeking a passionate and skilled Immunization Surveillance Epidemiologist (Epi 2 – Non-Med) to join our team and support immunization surveillance for seasonal vaccines like influenza and COVID-19. In this role, you’ll analyze and interpret immunization data, develop data dashboards, and provide critical insights that guide public health action. This is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on the health of our communities.

Expectations and Responsibilities
:
  • Data Management & Visualization: Design, maintain, and update immunization dashboards for seasonal vaccines, ensuring data quality and accessibility for internal and external use.
  • Epidemiological Investigations & Analysis: Conduct vaccine investigations to assess coverage, identify disparities, and inform public health actions through data-driven insights.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local, state, and federal partners to support immunization efforts and provide technical guidance on data use.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement processes to ensure data accuracy, troubleshoot issues, and continuously improve reporting systems.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Response: Participate in public health emergency preparedness and response activities, including agency-wide training and support.

Location and Flexibility
We value work-life balance and offer the convenience of remote work with occasional in-person collaboration opportunities. Attending events or working In-office is rarely required and would be scheduled in advance. This is a remote/home-based position available to applicants residing anywhere in Washington State, as well as those living near the Oregon/Washington border and the Idaho/Washington border. This position requires occasional travel, when not traveling for work, this position may work from home or as a drop-in to the closest DOH facility.

Required Qualifications (you must meet ONE of the provided options and any additional criteria listed.)
:
Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.

  • Option 1:
    6 years of experience managing epidemiological programs and/or projects, including experience conducting health data analytics, disease or immunization surveillance, creating data visualizations, applying health equity perspectives, and communicating findings to diverse audiences; AND,
    • 1 year of experience using Power BI.
    • Experience collaborating with others, defining public health interventions, and applying data to public health policies and programs.

  • Option 2:
    A Master's degree or higher in Epidemiology – OR – A Master's degree or higher in public health or a closely allied field including 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent (500 level or above) in epidemiology and 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent in biostatistics; AND,
    • 1 year of experience working in a public health agency or a similar setting.
    • 1 year of experience using Power BI.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a state immunization program
  • AND, the following skills, abilities, and competencies:
    • Skills and abilities to perform statistical analyses, data cleaning and similar tasks using SAS, R, or SQL
    • Skills and abilities to leverage visualization and BI reporting tools such as Power BI
    • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively both in writing and verbally to staff, management, and the public.
    • Ability to address problems with new and effective solutions.
    • Ability to make effective public presentations.
    • Skilled in working with co-workers, stakeholders, and providers to resolve issues, answer inquiries, and/or address complaints.
    • Ability to make independent decisions, weigh options, consider consequences of decisions, and take responsibility for decisions.
    • Consistently produces accurate and timely work with minimal supervision.
