Other Conditions: General funds, to begin approximately November 2024, contingent on satisfactory performance, operational and program needs, actual staffing requirements, and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9-month to 11-month or 11-month to 9-month, as required by operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the general supervision of the Dean of Students Services, coordinates and assists in the provision of organized leadership in assigned student services areas.
- Conducts investigations of student policy violations, and serves as a student conduct coordinator for the campus.
- Intakes/investigates, counsels, and provides appropriate response to student complaints, including developing investigation reports with recommendations that are sound, objective, and within University policies, procedures, and acceptable practices.
- Coordinates and assists with overseeing the functions of the behavioral intervention or student of concern teams at Honolulu Community College
- Conducts research activities to address Student Services program review and budgetary planning, including development of division budget and management of student services purchasing functions
- Maintains oversight of the college’s enrollment management activities to include student success initiatives and data analysis related to outreach, retention, persistence, academic standing, and probation; and assists with exception requests and evaluations.
- Serves as Dean’s liaison to student services faculty and staff whose focus is promoting greater accessibility and success for designated student populations; identifies policy or procedural systemic barriers and works with college officials to reduce or eliminate problems with student accessibility, success, or transfer.

- Serves as the Dean’s agent in overseeing and coordinating student-related grants development and management activities; ensures grant compliance and quality assurance
- Develops and manages special student projects or initiatives for the Dean or Student Services departments and serves as a member of campus committees and groups that represent student interests
- Other duties as assigned
Note: Minimum qualifications (degrees and credits) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and met by the effective date of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Direct experience in student affairs, student conduct, and behavioral intervention management in higher education, with a successful record of progressive leadership in higher education in student affairs and/or developmental education.
- Ability to handle confidential information and sensitive matters with a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
- Demonstrated investigative ability to gather and analyze facts and circumstances, recognize problems and identify possible causes and resolve the full range of student adverse and disciplinary issues that may commonly occur.
- Knowledge of college policies in areas of student rights and responsibilities, educational financing, and curricular structure and development.
- Demonstrated managerial, coordination/supervisory experience commensurate with academic rank performed successfully under broad and general guidelines within which wide and sound judgment, initiative, and discretion for decision-making were exercised.
- Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure with frequent interruptions, to remain flexible and innovative with established policies and procedures, and to manage several concurrent projects with competing deadlines.
- Evidence of collaboration with faculty, staff, and students on large-scale academic or student services projects that led to improvements in student success outcomes based on assessment and achievement data.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, writing, and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of student information systems and application of these systems in college enrollment management, specific Banner experience preferable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community college philosophy, mission and purpose.
- Demonstrated knowledge, competency, and sensitivity to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Graduate and undergraduate transcript(s) showing the name of institution, degree and coursework to date appropriate to the position (Copies of official transcripts are acceptable; however, original official transcripts will be required at the time of hire. On-line transcripts or academic record/grade summaries will NOT be accepted. Diplomas and copies will NOT be accepted.). All degree(s) and/or credit(s) must be earned from regionally or nationally accredited postsecondary colleges and universities recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education. Transcripts issued from an institution outside the United States of America require a course-by-course analysis with an equivalency statement from an agency having membership with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc., verifying the degree equivalency to that of an accredited institution within the USA. Expense of the evaluation shall be borne by the applicant.
