The Hawaiʻi State Senate Majority Research Office (SMA) is seeking experienced Legislative Researchers to join our team for the upcoming 2025 legislative session. As a Legislative Researcher, you will play a vital role in supporting the majority party members of the Senate by conducting research, drafting legislation, and assisting with the legislative process.
Responsibilities:

• Draft bills, resolutions, and committee reports.
• Attend Standing Committee hearings in person, take detailed notes, and actively participate to ensure compliance with rules and procedures, including answering any questions from members or staff.
• Track legislation throughout the session.
• Conduct in-depth research on various topics, as requested.
• Prepare research memoranda and letters to provide guidance and analysis.
• Respond to inquiries from Standing Committee members and staff.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of tasks.
• Prioritize and manage multiple projects to meet strict deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree.
• Strong reading comprehension, organization, time management, and analytical, research, and writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to grasp and explain complex issues in a clear and concise manner.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, elected officials, and staff.
• Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and online meeting applications.
• Prior legislative experience and/or a graduate degree is a plus.

Position Salary range of $4,800.00 to $5,800.00 per month. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Must be willing to reside on or relocate to the island of Oʻahu and must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as legislative deadlines may demand.
