Hawaii State Senate
Legislative Researcher - WAM

The Senate Committee on Ways and Means (WAM) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Legislative Researcher to join our team. As a vital committee staff member, you will play a crucial role in analyzing legislative proposals and supporting the development of informed policy recommendations.
Responsibilities:
- Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on legislative proposals, assessing their fiscal impact and implications for the State of Hawaii.
- Draft Preparation: Prepare high-quality bill drafts, committee reports, and legislative recommendations that are clear, concise, and aligned with committee goals.
- Process Understanding: Demonstrate a strong understanding of the legislative process, including timelines and procedures.
- Policy Analysis: Analyze existing and proposed laws to identify potential policy implications and recommend improvements.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Demonstrated research, writing, and analytical skills. Experience in a legislative setting is a plus.
- Confidentiality and professionalism: Handle all confidential information with the utmost care and discretion. Demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical principles, conducting yourself with integrity, respect, and competence in all interactions.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of the legislative process, Hawaiian government, and public policy issues.
- Availability: Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet legislative deadlines.
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- Experience working on fiscal policy or budget issues
- Knowledge of Hawaiian law and regulations
The Senate Committee on Ways and Means is responsible for overseeing all appropriation bills and bills with fiscal impacts.

Position Salary range of $4,000.00 to $4,400.00 per month. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Must be willing to reside on or relocate to the island of Oahu and must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as legislative deadlines may demand.
