Benefits to you
  • We pay 95% to 99% of medical insurance premiums for full-time employees [OR up to 99% of medical insurance premiums for part-time employees], including mental health coverage.
  • The hourly equivalent for this position is $26.06 - $40.43. [OR The annual salary for this position is $54,209 - $84,095.]
  • 10 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 3 personal business days, separate sick and vacation paid leaves (prorated for part-time employees), and other employee benefits such as optional insurances and flexible spending plans.
  • OJD will pay you a 5% allowance for bilingual skills (includes ASL) if you can pass a skills test and are assigned to use those skills on the job!
  • Salary offers are made with consideration of the candidate’s education and experience.
  • External candidates chosen for the Release Assistance Officer position will be offered step 2 of the salary scale.
Location Highlights
Oregon City, Oregon
rests on the Willamette River southeast of Portland. It is part of the Portland Metropolitan Area (along with Beaverton, Gresham, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, WA). Oregon City was the first capital of Oregon prior to the creation of the Oregon Territory in 1848. Before settling on Salem in 1864, the capital was moved several times to several different cities. It is also the end point of the Oregon Trail. Oregon City has the only “vertical street” in the nation, Elevator Street. Activities include museums, historic buildings, and over 22 city parks, including Clackamette Park at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas rivers. Oregon City is also home to Willamette Falls, the largest waterfall by volume in the Pacific Northwest.
Position Highlights
The
Clackamas County Circuit Court
is hiring multiple Release Assistance Officer positions.
In this role…
For much of your day, you will determine pretrial release options for defendants by applying Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice Orders, Presiding Judge Orders, and using risk assessment tools. You will research and prepare reports for judges on adults in custody that are ineligible for release. Including compiling criminal and FTA history using LEDS and OJD systems, verify residence and employment, determine current and past probation or parole status. This job requires you to complete risk assessments. Verify information given and release adults in custody that meet criteria. You will determine who, upon release, is most likely to appear in court, not likely to commit new offenses, and/or does not pose a threat to the community or themselves.
Part of this position is attending court proceedings to testify to recommendations for release and other matters. Identify and prepare files that need to be added on dockets and correspond with other court staff. Complete financial affidavit to determine eligibility for court appointed counsel. You will prepare, disperse, and collect affidavits of indigence for adults in custody set for arraignment.
You are expected to research and apply information gathered from multiple sources and maintain contact with persons who are under pretrial conditional release. Ensure appearance at court. Verify accuracies of court dates for court reminders.
Perform clerical and computer work including preparing new files, typing, filing, and review court orders. Respond to questions from judges and court staff regarding pretrial release and court appoint counsel.

Minimum Qualifications

The qualified candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social/human services, or a closely related field.
OR
Four (4) years’ experience in criminal/juvenile justice or a court environment.
OR
Any combination of
education and experience
equivalent to four (4) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
AND

Requested Skills and Attributes

  • Experience conducting interviews to obtain personal and/or financial information.
  • Experience communicating effectively, orally and in writing, with people in emotionally charged and stressful situations.
  • Experience communicating decisions regarding the approval or denial of benefits or services and the explanation of laws, rules, or regulations.
  • Experience using a personal computer to access and input information and complete various tasks.
  • Experience working in a court system, criminal justice, corrections, or other legal environment.
  • Preference will be given to applicants that demonstrate the following skills: Current LEDS certification, Evaluating and completing risk assessments, Experience with a correctional case management system, Experience with the Odyssey case management system, Experience with managing a high caseload of individuals
Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time position, and the Clackamas County Circuit Court’s main work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, the Release Assistance Officers cover responsibilities from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., 7 days a week. For this position, we are looking for a candidate to fill the 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday timeframe. Training will commence during regular business hours before starting the positions’ work schedule.
  • Occasional after-hours or overtime work may be required. Therefore, this position is eligible for overtime compensation for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per work week.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Frequent phone and in-person contact with people who may be facing challenging life circumstances or highly stressful situations.
  • Regular use of the following equipment: telephone, OJD-assigned computer with multiple monitors, copy machine, fax machine, and scanner.
  • This position is required to work inside the secure booking area of the Clackamas County Adult Corrections Facility for part of the workday. There will be frequent contact with people who have been charged with various criminal offenses.
  • Traveling/walking between the courthouse and Clackamas County Sheriffs Office facilities.
  • Long periods of sitting or standing at the computer.
  • This position also requires you to work during inclement weather events if it is deemed necessary to keep the court operational.

Criminal Background Check
You will be subject to a criminal background check if you are a finalist. Adverse results are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may result in disqualification if the circumstances are directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • In addition, you will also be subject to an extensive criminal background check conducted by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office on or after your start date. As stated above, the adverse results are evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may result in disqualification and removal from your position if you are unable to perform the essential functions of the Release Assistance Officer position as a result.
