Safety Advocate - PRN - Nights

Position Purpose: Safety Advocates are responsible for working with the care teams to ensure ongoing one to one supervision and observation of a patient deemed: : suicide risk, M1, safety risk, to provide compassion, support, and resources to the patient, the family, and the care team as needed. All activities and resources to ensure alignment with the mission, vision and values of the department and organization.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Position Specific Performance Expectations:
  • Perform the function of safety advocate pursuant to the Suicide Risk Screening, Precautions and Care Policy by complying with the Safety Advocates continuous observation responsibilities.
  • Work with staff to inventory patient’s personal belongings and keep them secure.
  • Monitor visitors as required directed by Mind Springs or the provider assessment.
  • Report relevant observations and interactions to RN and clinical staff assigned to care for the patient.
  • Provide appropriate support to the patient and family.
  • Provide resources regarding mental health services to the patient and family.
  • If possible, assess patient’s basic living needs and provide information to the RN, OHA and Social Worker.
  • Interact with the staff in a way that best serves the patient’s needs.
  • Reports to OHA Team with Safety Advocate forms, scheduling conflicts/gaps, and other concerns as they arise.
  • This position is NOT a hands on position, safety advocates do not provide medical care or security
  • Adheres to the OHA mission and service model to patients and community
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Completes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated times.
  • Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Strives to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state and federal regulations and policies.
  • Follows policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, public and staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for driving positions)
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • ASIST certification (or equivalent) required within 6 months
  • Basic Advocacy Training or equivalent started within 6 months
Experience:
  • Safety advocate training and experience preferred
  • Prior healthcare experience preferred


Position Classification: Non-exempt
Compensation Range: $18.03 to $22.19
Benefits: Non-Benefit Eligible Position
