The Department of History at Florida International University invites applications for an Open-Rank Tenure-Track/Tenured Professor position in United States History. Scholars in all subfields are welcome to apply. FIU has strategic research priorities in environment and environmental resilience, health, and technology and innovation. The History Department especially welcomes applications from candidates with interests in modern, African American, and oral history.
A Ph.D. in History or a related field is required and must be in-hand before beginning the appointment. The candidate will teach a regular 2-2 load, offering a range of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, from the introductory U.S. History survey to seminars for our M.A. and Ph.D. programs. FIU is a dynamic research institution, and the person hired will have the opportunity to develop contacts with faculty working in cognate disciplines in and beyond the humanities, via, for example, the African and African Diaspora Studies Program, the Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center, the FIU Institute of Environment, the Population Health Initiative, and the Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab/Commons for Justice
In 2021, the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (The Green School), the college housing the History Department, received full membership in the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). This prestigious organization includes the top 40 schools of international affairs in the world. The Green School is among only 25 in the US with this designation, 5th in the Southeastern United States, and the 1st and only one in the State of Florida.
