Analyst/Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Analytics

Sydney

FULL TIME

September 20, 2024

Analyst/Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Analytics
The role of the Credit Risk Analytics team is to make risk-based supervisory judgements and inform strategic decisions on credit risk measurement and modelling. Our vision is to be an approachable and inclusive team that is valued and respected for its sound and balanced decision-making. We also offer a supportive environment to help make a meaningful difference to team members' careers and development.

The CRA team engages in a range of specialist supervisory work mostly concerning the internal ratings based (IRB) approach to determining regulatory capital requirements for credit risk. The team collaborates with other specialist risk, bank supervision, data and policy teams. We also regularly engage with the IRB banks both in-person and virtually. The credit risk capital framework has recently undergone significant change and there is a range of exciting projects to get involved in to ensure a robust and consistent implementation across the industry.

As an Analyst or Senior Analyst, your main tasks will involve:
  • Undertaking assessments and approvals of IRB credit risk models;
  • Analysing relevant data for trends and potential problem areas;
  • Participating in prudential reviews of IRB banks including thematic investigations; and
  • Collaborating with important stakeholders, such as entity supervision colleagues.

In performing this role, you will be exposed to and gain knowledge of technical models that are used by banks to make credit decisions and determine the level of regulatory capital they must hold. In doing so, you will help ensure that APRA fulfils its purpose of ensuring that the financial interests of Australians are protected.

At the analyst level, some knowledge of the IRB capital framework and credit risk is beneficial although not essential. You will need strong problem solving, data handling, teamwork, presentation and communication skills. A tertiary quantitative background is necessary. We also require someone that is motivated to learn and contribute to the team and APRA.
