ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an opportunity for a Casual Match Referee within our Events & Operations department. The Match Referee is a representative of Cricket Australia and works closely with the Umpires, Players and Team Officials to encourage and uphold the traditions and spirit of Cricket, and the highest standards of player behaviour. Our Match Referees are responsible for the overall conduct of the game to ensure it is delivered in accordance with the Laws of Cricket and standard playing conditions that are applicable to the competition they are officiating.
Reporting to the Lead Match Referee and/or Match Officials Manager you’ll be responsible for:
- Providing accurate and timely performance assessments for each umpire who participated in the match that the Panel member officiated at;
- Upholding the Spirit of the Game;
- Ensuring that games are conducted according to the Laws of Cricket and Standard Playing Conditions, Codes and Policies that are applicable as communicated by Cricket Australia;
- Participating in pre-match meetings with umpires and captains to discuss the playing conditions relevant to the match and any concerns that umpires or captains may have;
- Overseeing the Code of Conduct process and managing any reports that arise in the match in accordance with the relevant Code of Conduct;
- Attending cricket matches, camps and meetings as needed.
- A comprehensive and demonstratable knowledge of the Laws of Cricket, Playing Conditions, Codes and Policies and the Spirit of Cricket;
- Recent or contemporary involvement with Australian Cricket or another major sport in the capacity of umpire, coach or former First-Class player;
- Exceptional communication skills with a proven ability to quickly develop trust with and the respect of the umpires, players and team officials;
- Demonstrated experience in making considered and clear decisions, which may involve difficult choice. Comfortable with the responsibility of decision making and taking action with confidence under self-direction
