EL 1 - Senior Developer

Position Overview
The Federal Court of Australia are seeking a Senior .NET Developer to join our dynamic team and be part of a significant modernisation of the courts business applications being delivered through the Digital Court Program.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced C# .NET Developer with a proven track record developing and enhancing complex systems. The role will work alongside other Developers and Designers to ensure transformation of legacy systems into well integrated, modern and efficient cloud-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to the Development Lead – Digital Court Program, the Senior Developer is responsible for development of quality software solutions to support the needs of the courts. Development activity will include C# .NET Core web applications and Asp.net web API’s working with Oracle and MSSQL databases.

They will also contribute to continued improvement and maintenance of the courts’ software applications.

As part of an agile delivery team, the Senior Developer will collaborate with other team members to analyse the inner workings of legacy systems as input to the design of new solutions.

Responsibilities include:
  • Development and maintenance of software solutions using C# .NET Core and related technologies;
  • Working within project team(s) to design, develop, integrate and support applications and components in line with court requirements;
  • Analysis of upgrade paths, enhancements and effort estimates;
  • Implement best practices for code quality, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers where required
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues
  • Coordination of changes with relevant test, security, development, vendor and other teams.
  • Adhere to the Court's change management, security, release, maintenance policies and procedure including ITIL framework.

Preferred skills and experience:
  • Proven experience in C# .NET development (5+ years) with a strong command of C# .NET Core and related frameworks.
  • Proficiency in web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, Java Script, and AJAX.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like Azure or AWS.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization technologies
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Experience with database design and development (Oracle and/or SQL Server).
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and Dev Ops practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Selection Criteria
  • Experience as a senior C# .NET Core developer with demonstrated skills in:
  • C# .NET Core web application development
  • Applying software design patterns
  • Creating C# .NET Core web API ‘s and integrating services in a cloud environment
  • Experience working with databases, ideally Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL
  • High-level ability to understand complex technical environments and work to design robust, practical and supportable solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to meet business and technical objectives.
  • The IT Division is geographically dispersed and experience in working in such teams is essential.

Other Requirements
Relevant industry or tertiary qualifications in IT would be well regarded.

Eligibility
Employment with the Court is subject to the conditions prescribed in the Public Service Act 1999, and the following:
  • Australian citizenship – the successful applicant must hold Australian citizenship.
  • Security and character clearance – the successful applicant must satisfy a Police Records Check and may also be required to complete security clearances during the course of their employment.
  • Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
