Health Safety and Wellbeing Advisor

Salary: UOM 7 – $106,432 - $115,211 p.a. plus 17% super
- Deliver the Faculty's Health, Safety, and Wellbeing strategy by providing expertise and partnering with leaders to develop effective solutions.
- Collaborate with Schools to develop solutions for a range of health, safety, and wellbeing matters, providing technical expertise and leveraging internal and external OHS specialists to achieve effective outcomes.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) Advisor to join our dynamic team within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT). In this pivotal role, you will be empowered by strong faculty leadership, with a deep commitment to health and safety. You’ll be supported in driving a proactive safety culture, with a focus on psychosocial risk management and fostering a healthy, safe, and inclusive work environment
As the HSW Advisor, you will be a key partner to our leaders across FEIT, working collaboratively to develop effective health, safety, and wellbeing solutions. Your expertise will help shape strategies that go beyond compliance, ensuring a forward-thinking approach that enhances our culture of care, innovation, and excellence. You will be instrumental in promoting HSW initiatives through proactive communication, mentoring, and building strong relationships with both staff and students.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and maintain strong working partnerships with teaching and research teams to identify HSW hazards, opportunities for process improvement and implement practical control strategies
- Maintain, promote and drive improvement of HSW Management Systems to foster best practice and continuous improvement in HSW.
- Analyse and keep records of HSW data, including statistical reports, incident investigations, regulatory licencing, and HSW Management Plans to inform individual and team based HSW initiatives.
The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently. They thrive in a complex matrix environment, working independently, flexibly, and collaboratively while building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
You will also have:
- A degree in Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety legislation and current industry standards/best practice approach to effectively manage HSW.
- Experience in delivering HSW advisory services with a client focus and providing accurate and timely support and advice
- Proven ability to work effectively within a complex matrix workplace, including the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) has been the leading Australian provider of engineering and IT education and research for over 150 years. We are a multidisciplinary Faculty organised into three key Schools; Computing and Information Systems (CIS), Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (CBE) and Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering (EMI).
The role sits within the broader Infrastructure Team, who provide a range of services to the broader Faculty made up of the following functional areas: Laboratory and Technical Services, Infrastructure Operations Services, Health Safety Wellbeing and Business Improvement, Workspace Services Cultural Collection and Assets.
