Snowyhydro

Payroll Manager

FULL TIME

October 24, 2024

Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.
An exciting opportunity for a detail oriented and experienced Payroll Manager has become available. This is a dynamic role with a focus on ensuring that Snowy Hydro employees are paid accurately and on time, every time.
This position will require you to have the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of work. Experience and proficiency in Success Factors and advanced knowledge of payroll processes, concepts, systems and software is essential to succeeding in this position.
Core to the role is building and maintaining strong relationships with all internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for payroll initiatives. Our ideal candidate will have the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively with a proactive and solutions oriented mindset, and a focus on continuous improvement.
This is a pivotal role that can, by mutual agreement, offer flexible working arrangements, as Snowy Hydro appreciates the additional value such arrangements can bring to our business and to our employees. The successful candidate can choose to work primarily from Melbourne, Sydney or Cooma. Irrespective of primary work location, regular travel to regional offices and assets will be essential to establish key stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities will include:
  • Responsible for the effectiveness of the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, adherence to deadlines and compliance with all relevant Australian payroll legislation and regulations
  • Manage and mentor a small team of payroll professionals, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Ensure compliance with Superannuation requirements, Payroll Tax and Personal Income Tax rules, including the preparation of necessary reports and documentation
  • Utilise Success Factors to streamline payroll processes, enhance reporting capabilities and improve user experience for employees and management
  • Actively participate in Enterprise Bargaining Agreement negotiations, reviews, and updates, providing insights and recommendations based on experience, payroll data and trends along with insights relating to the practicalities of administering EBA outcomes from a Payroll process perspective
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements, automation, and efficiencies within the payroll function, implementing best practices and innovative solutions.
  • Serve as a respected payroll subject matter expert, advising management and employees on payroll-related queries and ensuring clear communication of policies and procedures
We're looking for someone with:
  • A Bachelor Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Proven track record of managing a payroll function, with a strong focus on Australian payroll legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a high-performing team, with strong interpersonal skills to influence and build rapport across a large workforce (>1,000 employees) is essential
  • Experience in Successfactors is essential
  • Proven ability to contribute to Enterprise Bargaining Agreement negotiations and maintain a collaborative and inclusive approach to stakeholder engagement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in payroll processing an absolute must have
  • Alignment with our values of Safety, Decency, Teamwork, Agility, Courage and Ownership
Snowy Hydro is a flexible, values-driven organisation. We know that a diverse workforce creates an environment for innovation and creativity and that an inclusive workplace creates a psychologically safe environment, where our people feel safe to challenge ideas and make better, more informed decisions.
We believe that a healthy and socially connected workforce leads to improved engagement, increased levels of resilience, more constructive and respectful interactions, and ultimately a safer and more productive place to work.
