Research Assistant in Epilepsy Genetics Research

Salary: Academic Level A – $83,468 - $113,262 p.a. plus 17% super
- Recruit participants and manage clinical and genetic data for epilepsy research, conducting interviews, coordinating research appointments, and accurately entering data into a centralised database.

Join the world-renowned Epilepsy Research Centre at the Melbourne Brain Centre in Heidelberg, where you'll be part of a leading team making groundbreaking discoveries in epilepsy research, led by Laureate Professors Sam Berkovic and Ingrid Scheffer.
As a Research Assistant, you will play a key role in advancing clinical and genetic research, working alongside internationally recognised experts.
This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects, collaborate with a dedicated team, and engage with participants to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by epilepsy.

Responsibilities include participant recruitment, conducting interviews, managing data and research files, coordinating research appointments, collecting and analysing clinical and genetic data, and assisting with grant applications and research manuscripts.
Who We Are Looking For
You will have a tertiary degree in biological or medical science with an interest in genetics, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills to engage with diverse groups and strong written and verbal communication abilities.
You will have meticulous attention to detail, the ability to manage tasks individually and within a team, and proficient computer skills, with experience in genetics, epilepsy, or counselling being desirable.
A valid driver's licence and willingness to undertake blood collection tasks and vaccinations are required, along with a current Working with Children Check.
You will also have:
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with adults and children, across a diverse range of community and cultural groups.
- Demonstrated ability to use tact and discretion in communicating around issues of health.
- Demonstrated capacity to undertake high quality written analysis, such as literature reviews.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
