The opportunity

Join CSIRO’s innovative Space Program as a key player in developing space weather research capabilities. You’ll lead efforts to position CSIRO within the national and international space weather ecosystem through research in heliophysics and collaboration with government and academic partners.

In this role, you’ll help shape CSIRO’s space weather impact while driving cutting-edge, multidisciplinary science and engineering. Your work will contribute to defining CSIRO’s value in space weather, developing national space facilities, and applying space-based solutions to major national challenges.

Your duties will include:

• Position CSIRO in the national and international space weather ecosystem by leading research and building collaborations with external experts and facilities.
• Develop and execute radio telescope observation plans for interplanetary scintillation (IPS), managing the entire process from data collection to analysis.
• Foster innovation by leveraging cross-disciplinary expertise and identifying new research opportunities through networking with scientific colleagues.
• Expand CSIRO’s research capability by identifying and securing new post-doctoral positions, as well as developing competitive grant proposals.
• Publish research in refereed scientific journals, present findings at international space weather conferences, and contribute to CSIRO’s scientific publications.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across different regions, working toward shared scientific goals and delivering high-quality reports, papers, and proposals.

Location: Perth (Kensington) or Sydney (Marsfield)
Salary: AU$110,038 - AU$119,080 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:

Essential:
Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed.

• A Ph D (or an equivalent combination of qualifications and research experience) in a relevant field such as Heliophysics
• Demonstrated ability to undertake original, creative and innovative research by generating and pursuing novel ideas and solutions to scientific research problems.
• A demonstrated publication history of authorship on scientific papers in peer reviewed journals and/or reports, grant applications or inventorship on patent applications.
• 5+ years in Heliophysics research, specifically including research related to interplanetary scintillation with ground-based telescopes

Desirable

• An understanding of the Australian and international space weather ecosystem including facilities, expertise and impact.

Eligibility
