Position Summary
Manager, Accounting
Your goal in this position is to provide leadership to the General Accounting and Accounts Payable teams within the Financial Services portfolio regarding the implementation and maintenance of internal controls. You will lead the Accounting Associates through the month end process which includes reviewing and approving monthly journal entries and account reconciliations. In addition, you will provide comprehensive support to the Director, Finance and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) which will include the development of financial statements and reporting. In this role, you will be self-directed and will be able to deal with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities effectively. You will have exceptional organizational, verbal and written communication skills. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will

Ensure all financial controls are in place in all areas of the Hospital, and will regularly monitor the effectiveness of these controls
Develop and maintain robust processes and controls to ensure compliance with accounting guidelines (GAAP), Accounting and Accounts payable legislation (including HST) and Broader Public Sector procurement guidelines
Maintain current knowledge and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Hospital policies, accreditation guidelines, Risk Management, and Occupational Health and Safety requirements
Work with external auditors and others, as required, to ensure highest standards of financial records, reporting, and controls
Coordinate and lead the external audit process for the Hospital and supplementary programs as required
Manage all treasury functions including cash flow, bank accounts, loans, investments and credit cards
Manage all issues associated with daily transactions and quarterly reporting to the bank
Provide accounting advice to clinical and support departments to ensure compliance with accounting and Ministry standards
Be responsible for month end financial closing, reviewing reports produced by Payroll, patients accounts and accounts payable,
Produce monthly financial statements and reports for the Director, CFO, Senior Leadership Team and Board of Governors
Supervise Accounting Associates and Accounts Payable Supervisor

Qualifications

Post-Secondary Degree in Business Administration or Accounting
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA)
Registration in good standing with the Chartered Professional Accountant Association(s)
Minimum 10 years of experience in General Accounting, including 2 years in a supervisory role
Hospital experience is an asset
Strong coaching and mentoring skills
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Strong leadership and problem solving skills

This is a Full Time Temporary position (18 Months) with 8 hour day shifts in the Financial Services Department located at 2 Buchan Court.
