The balance of these duties is driven by the intensity of the Gas Management program in any given year. This role is accountable for achieving CHO’s yearly and multiyear emissions reduction goals as well as enhancing well performance for all producing wells in Cenovus’s Primary Conventional Heavy Oil portfolio and ensuring value accretive decisions are made with respect to each well on a continual basis.
When overseeing emissions reduction projects, this position will work in collaboration with the Air Emissions team, Operations Engineering, Projects Engineering, and stakeholders within the business unit to ensure program success by coordinating the yearly scope of emissions abatement projects.
When overseeing new drills, this position will work in collaboration with Operations and other members of the asset team to optimize well delivery. Additionally, the successful candidate will optimize profitability of wells and core areas and leverage other subsurface teams in driving base production optimization activities.
This role may also closely collaborate with EOR Production Engineering counterparts as a development pathway and to support absence coverage. This role will require a minimum of 2 field visits per year to support understanding of assets and building collaborative relationships with field personnel.
What you’ll do:
  • Optimize Primary Conventional Heavy Oil wells to maximize profitability and manage long-term resource recovery through PCP design, recompletions, well optimization, operating strategies, and workovers/cleanouts
  • Collaborate with subsurface teams, operations engineering, and field operations to drive both short and long-term improvements from a subsurface focus
  • Identify and generate scope for annual gas management programs
  • Develop and implement workover strategies
  • Develop downhole optimization plans annually for each core area, collaborating with other teams to prioritize opportunities
  • Lead monthly reviews of operating income by well, ensuring data-driven decisions for well startups or shut-ins
  • Manage artificial lift selection and design for new and existing wells
  • Handle production reporting and near-term production forecasting for assigned assets
  • Drive continuous improvement through data acquisition, lab analysis, and empirical evaluations
  • Conduct annual competitor analysis reviews for well completion design, workover frequency, and other production engineering activities
  • Emissions Reduction:
    • Responsible to coordinate the execution of the annual Gas Management program consisting of individual emissions abatement projects such as compressors, combustors, etc. (Program and Project Management)
    • Responsible for asset level oversight of the emissions profile focusing on (but not limited to) methane emissions
    • Responsible for regular data management and reporting of CHO emissions and program progress reporting data
    • Serves as the data steward for the CHO emissions data centralization and automation efforts
    • Serves as business unit SME for Alberta and Saskatchewan emission regulations in collaboration with the corporate regulatory and air emissions teams
    • Responsible for business unit level Carbon Credit application submission in collaboration with corporate functions
    • Collaborate with corporate teams to design and manage CHO’s multi-year plan towards the Methane Milestone and emission targets
    • Provides advisory to team members in designing gas management strategies for their assets
    • Review and evaluation of vendor emissions reduction offerings
Who you are:
