Position Summary

The Simulation Operations Specialist ensures the efficient operation and organization of foundational healthcare lab courses and simulation-based learning activities within Pivot Ed.

This position is responsible for coordinating and communicating with program administration the provision, storage, and distribution of lab and simulation supplies and equipment while also maintaining a safe and productive environment. The Simulation Operations Specialist will be responsible for setting up supplies and equipment for low, moderate and high-fidelity simulation-based learning activities, including maintenance, and related technical and administrative duties to ensure the smooth functioning and delivery of simulation-based education activities.

Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Healthcare Simulation Operations
  • Collaborates with programs and users of simulation spaces to ensure required supplies, equipment, and other needs are met to support the delivery of simulation-based education activities.
  • Creates and maintains an inventory management system:
  • Monitors inventory levels, anticipates supply needs, and maintains accurate records of all items within storage areas and labs; Ensures organization of all supplies and equipment.
  • Orders lab supplies and communicates with college departments and vendors as needed.
  • Performs routine inspections and maintenance of simulation facilities and equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns.
  • Oversees the storage and disposition of chemicals and hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Responsible for the set-up, calibration, and maintenance of simulation equipment, ensuring functionality and safety.
  • Ensures simulation environments and equipment are organized and set-up for teaching sessions. This may involve moving equipment, including simulators, and other materials than can weigh up to 100 pounds
  • Prepares simulation environments to accurately represent a clinical setting using real and simulated clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Adheres and enforces guidelines for using spaces for simulation-based education.
  • Ensures cleanliness of all simulation spaces.
  • Prepares, integrates, and provides support for the high and low fidelity simulation trainers and associated equipment, including virtual reality.
  • Prepares and maintains equipment, media, computers, and materials related to simulation-based education activities ensuring environmental fidelity
  • Assists in role playing applications, props placement, and moulage for simulation-based training


Healthcare Simulation Technical Support
  • Troubleshoots technical issues related to simulation-based education equipment and software
  • Assists in orientating individuals who will be utilizing simulation spaces, equipment and software for simulation-based education
  • Assists in maintaining an equipment inventory process and list
  • Supports other simulation sessions, trainings, tours, and events for internal and external groups and/or individuals
  • Assists senior staff with the purchasing and maintenance of inventory of supplies and equipment for simulation.


Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborates with faculty, scheduling officers, and leadership to understand and fulfill requirements for various courses utilizing all simulation spaces.
  • Participates in program planning meetings.
  • Reports misuse or mishandling of equipment and follows OHS reporting requirements
  • Partners as needed with ITS and other service areas to ensure optimally functioning equipment and infrastructure.
  • Resolves time sensitive scheduling and inventory acquisition issues effectively.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of relevant health professions principles and practices.
  • Ability to work with teams of diverse backgrounds and experience in the fields integrated in simulation education
  • Assists with trouble shooting technological equipment
  • Serves as a resource and assists with training instructors and staff in the use of simulation equipment under the direction of the immediate supervisor
  • Identifies and communicates the need for replacement equipment and facilitates new purchases
  • Interfaces with vendors regarding troubleshooting and system problems.
  • Supports collaborative research and accreditation projects for the simulation environment as requested.


Requirements:

  • Post-secondary certificate (health or administrative related program), and/or 1+ years of experience in healthcare simulation-based education.
  • Familiarity with simulation-based learning equipment (i.e. VR, patient simulators), tools, and materials, with a strong understanding of safety and compliance standards.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and proficiency in inventory management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and software.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and equipment, typically up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfort working in a simulation environment.
  • Willingness to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods while performing job duties.

This opening is a project, AUPE position. Please note all successful candidates will be required to provide copies of government issued identification and proof of educational qualifications upon hire and may be required to provide an enhanced police information check.
