This Opportunity:
We are currently looking to fill a part time (approximately 18 hours per week) Volunteer Engagement Coordinator in Halifax and area, NS.
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, onboarding, recognition, and retention of volunteers and students who support After Stroke programming. In this role, the coordinator will actively champion volunteer-driven activities across programs which provide personalized support to stroke survivors. Working in collaboration with community health facilities, the coordinator will work to expand the number of volunteer opportunities and ensure roles are appropriately filed to meet program goals. The coordinator will uphold best practices in screening methods and processes, maintaining accurate records, and fostering a positive and inclusive volunteer experience for all.
Responsibilities:
Volunteer Management
- Oversee the entire volunteer life cycle including recruitment, screening, on-boarding, training, recognition, retention, and on-going volunteer support.
- Contribute to the development of an annual volunteer recruitment and retention plan to support After Stroke programming, including post implementation evaluation and feedback.
- Provide support, direction, and leadership inline with volunteer best practices to program staff, volunteers, and students.
- Work with the After Stroke team to ensure suitable volunteers are integrated into After Stroke programs and services, including, but limited to Hospital Peer Connection.
- Provide volunteers with appropriate placements, resources, and training.
- Work closely with the Senior Manager, Volunteer Management to create proactive recruitment and recognition strategies.
- Ensure compliance with March of Dimes Canada’s volunteer policies, procedures, and processes including implementation of risk management practices.
- Accurately gather and maintain data on volunteers and activities completed.
- Represent March of Dimes Canada at community meetings, conferences, and community events, promoting the organization’s objectives and identifying potential collaborative opportunities.
- Network and engage with community organizations, schools, service clubs, healthcare facilities and businesses to foster partnerships in volunteer opportunities which support program goals.
- Ensure volunteers are appropriately trained and supported in their role.
- Identify areas for improvement pertaining to efficiencies and implement new processes, structure, and resources accordingly.
- Contribute to the development of volunteer-related policies, procedures, and practices in accordance with organizational standards.
- Identify learning and development opportunities related to this role.
- Contribute to annual program plans, establishing objectives and key performance indicators that are aligned with the broader community programs goals.
- Generate monthly reports as needed.
- A minimum of 2 years working experience in a volunteer coordination capacity.
- Post-secondary education in relevant field, and/or related equivalent experience.
- Experience working with the disability community, knowledge of disability issues and/or lived experience of disability or providing person centred support will be considered strong assets.
- Awareness of crisis management strategies and understanding the importance of risk management protocols.
- Experience with resource development.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with volunteer management databases will be considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated leadership skills.
- Strong written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
- Proven ability to supervise, motivate, train, and monitor the performance of a team of volunteers.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Self-motivated with the flexibility to adapt to changing demands and deadlines to achieve results.
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to apply new methods and techniques.
- Evening work will be required from time to time.
