Carbohydrate Solutions Division is one of the three divisions at ADM. The division extracts and converts carbohydrates from various grains (such as corn and wheat) into starches, sweeteners, polyols, fibers for food, feed and even bio-fuel applications. In Asia, the division operates a corn starch based sweetener and fiber processing facility in Tianjin, China. The business also includes the distribution of broader carbohydrate products from other ADM assets in the world into Asian markets.

The role of the position is to develop and manage a solid supplier base of corn starch, negotiate physical market contracts based on production planning, and manage risks through futures hedging operations. The position requires close collaboration with the plant and commercial team to ensure a smooth Order to Delivery process. At the same time, the position will need to supervise plant procurement practices and warehouse logistics for starch and other related materials purchasing, through procurement and logistics resources in the plant and Shanghai.

Duty and Responsibilities

• Closely monitor corn and corn starch market trends, supply/demand factors, new investments, policy and regulations, and industry-wide publications to make effective starch purchasing recommendations
• Enrich and strengthen supplier base, foster and develop partnership relationship with key suppliers
• Develop strategy and effectively negotiate with vendors on purchase contracts
• Regular visit vendors in the interest of assuring the continued quality of materials, and contract compliance.
• Execute raw materials contracts in coordination with the plant to keep plant running
• Monitor raw material risk exposure, develop and execute hedging strategy and plan in coordination with the commercial team in consideration of sales commitment and forecast
• Adopt and implement company-wide procurement policies and processes to ensure full compliance, work with corporate functions to share, develop and enhance the company purchasing values.
• Collaborate with plant management team to ensure continuity of supplies and to develop cost reduction goals, cost containment purchasing programs and timelines
• Execute and maintain regular review of long term contracts to avoid invalidity or automatic renew without new biddings
• Develop and maintain management reports and dashboards
• Performs assignments as required

Education or Training Required

• Bachelor’s degree or above

Experience Required

• Minimum of 7-10 year experience in corn starch or corn starch plus other starch procurement positions in agricultural processing industry or food industry
• Minimum of 2 year experience in commodity risk management and hedging operations
