For Core Biochemical Analytics, we are looking for a curious and versatile analytical scientist with preferably 3 – 5 years of work experience who will be part of our sugar analysis platform.
At Novonesis, you contribute every single day to a more sustainable future based on biological solutions. We develop and produce, among other things, bacterial cultures for yogurt and cheese, probiotics for food supplements, and new microbiological solutions to extend the shelf life of products.
Core Biochemical Analytics is part of the R&D organization in Novonesis. Our analysis work is carried out in collaboration with various business areas such as Dairy, Plant Health, Animal Health, Enzymes and Human Health.

Core Biochemical Analytics develops chemical and biochemical analysis methods and provides quantitative as well as qualitative data of sugars and volatile components in food and other products. We use gas, liquid, and ion chromatography in combination with various detectors. Robots are a natural part of the workflows, and we always pay attention to automation and digitalization options for our pipelines.
Core Biochemical Analytics is a multinational department where we emphasize good collaboration, there is room for all of us, and where we help each other. We value the good communication between researchers, laboratory technicians and students, and we work closely together to solve our tasks.
The department consists of two specialized technology platforms targeting volatiles and carbohydrates incl. small organic acids. You will be associated with the carbohydrate’s platform.
In this role you’ll make an impact by…
Delivering high-quality research data for product development and understanding. Your role as analytical chemist will be to support a team of technicians in their daily operation of our IC and LC platforms used for quantification of sugars, larger carbohydrates, and organic acids, including working hands-on in the laboratory. Additionally, you will contribute with chemical understanding of carbohydrates in food, fermentation, and a solid understanding of their analysis.
Your daily work will be centered around interaction with technicians and delivering robust results from high-throughput analytical pipelines. Automation and digitalization are key for us, and our analytical pipelines rely on robots (Hamilton) and digital integration with different software solutions such as Chromeleon, Benchling, and Sample Manager.
Your tasks will include:
- Securing robust analytical pipelines and workflows, including qualification, instrument maintenance, and quality assurance
- Developing new methods and pipelines
- Participating in routine sample analysis of carbohydrates and small organic acids with quantitative methods (IC-PAD and LC-MS/MS)
- Coordinating with internal stakeholders on projects and samples
- Ensuring best experimental/analytical praxis with focus on digitalization and automation
We are looking for…
A scientist with practical experience and preferably a Ph D. You could have worked a few years with analytical chemistry or biochemistry, preferably hands-on with instrument troubleshooting, method development, and quantitative chromatography.
You are good at communicating with colleagues in the laboratory as well as with partners outside the team. You are a good team player and you thrive in a dynamic environment with a strong focus on high-throughput methods. You are motivated by providing robust data for product development and research. It is an advantage to have some experience with microbiology and/or food chemistry.
Further, you preferably have:
- Hands-on ion chromatography and HPLC experience using MS/MS, RI and/or UV detectors
- An interest in digitalization opportunities, and experience with LIMS systems
- Experience in sample purification of complex matrices
- Knowledge of Chromeleon, Benchling, Sample Manager, Python, SASJMP
- Fluency in both spoken and written English
