Are you a skilled academic with experience of drying processes? Do you have a profound interest in data-driven development of novel and challenging pharmaceutical products? Then you could be our new Associate Scientist in CMC API Development joining our drying activities in the Downstream Development department.

The position
In your job you will work in a development laboratory setting on pharmaceutical drying technologies focusing on API particle engineering and improved API bioavailability profiles. Furthermore, the role involves important contribution to the development of robust and scalable drying processes focusing on securing capacity demands from early-stage development projects through the final phases of process refinement to commercial scale manufacturing.

Your main tasks will be:
  • Perform spray-drying experiments in laboratory and pilot scale of APIs
  • Operate freeze drying experiments
  • Study and screen API solubility and stability
  • Conduct solid-state powder characterization and analysis of APIs
  • API purity analysis by UPLC
  • Planning, data management and documentation by using Excel and electrical laboratory notebook (ELN)
  • Develop and maintain equipment in the laboratories

Qualifications
To qualify you for the position, we imagine that you have:
  • You hold a BSc. or MSc in engineering/pharmaceutical/food science/ chemistry or equivalent
  • 0-2 years of experience from spray drying and/or freeze drying of advance fine-chemical products (enzymes, microbes, proteins, peptides, small molecules)
  • Skilled at planning and documenting your work
  • Conversant in English and preferably know Danish (not a pre-requisite)
  • Experience from characterization of powders and a data science mind-set is an advantage
  • Profound interest in hands-on experimental laboratory development work

About the Department
As part of Novo Nordisk PSQIT organisation, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development & Scaling makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture and distribute drug candidates for clinical trials and have a strong culture with a “can do” mind-set. As part of Novo Nordisk CMC API Development in Bagsværd, the Downstream Development department is focusing on the development of purification and drying processes for both early and late phase projects for semi-recombinant and fully synthetic APIs. And we do so in close collaboration with our internal research, pilot facilities and manufacturing units, and external Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs). Here, you will have the opportunity to work in an open and dynamic working environment, where professionalism is highly valued. The department consists of 90+ employees divided into in total 8 teams.
