The position
The position is within the Metabolism Biology department, which is part of Global Drug Discovery (GDD) and is located in Måløv, North-west of Copenhagen.
As an Associate Scientist, you will:
  • Participate in the in vitro characterisation and development of new therapeutics for the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases
  • Design, troubleshoot, and carry out experiments based on knowledge from the literature as well as with support from our scientists, and deliver high-quality data and results to our internal projects
  • Handle primary cells and cell lines and be part of setting up advanced human cell-based functional assays including micro-physiological systems to support phenotyping and validation of new drug candidates
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and operations and keep accurate and detailed records of experimental work and data
  • Work collaboratively with different stakeholders in a matrix organisation
Ultimately, your work will contribute to the improvement of the quality of life for millions of people with diabetes or other cardiometabolic diseases around the world.

Qualifications
To be successful in this position you have:
  • A master’s degree in life sciences (human biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, biotechnology or similar) or a bachelor’s degree in a similar filed and several years of relevant experience
  • Solid hands-on experience with cell cultures preferentially primary hepatocytes
  • Experience in methods such as RNA isolation, q PCR and ELISA
  • Experience in establishing advanced in vitro models, such as co-culture systems, organoids or organ on a chip technology is considered an advantage
  • Preferably skilled in programs such as Excel and Prism
  • Knowledge on liver biology is an advantage
In addition to your scientific profile, you are a motivated and open-minded team player with good collaboration skills. You are flexible, organized, and result oriented.

About the department
The Metabolism Biology department is part of the Metabolic Disease Research II area with primary focus on establishing new cellular in vitro models to elucidate mode-of-action and profiling of novel biology and molecules for early evaluation of new drug candidates. We contribute to many different research activities and projects, and we are responsible for delivering high quality data and input to drive the projects forward. For this purpose, we apply state-of-the-art equipment and collaborate closely with other departments within the cardiometabolic disease area.
In the department, we are six scientists, six technicians, and two students and the working atmosphere is characterised by an open, cheerful, and informal tone. With a multitude of different nationalities in the team, both working and social language is English.
