We are offering an exceptional leadership opportunity for an experienced and dynamic educator. We are the only American International School in Ecuador founded in 1959. We cater to 560 students from 23 countries, emphasizing both academic excellence and international perspective, within a caring and welcoming community for both students and staff. The school is dedicated to inspiring students to become principled and skillful contributors to the world. Known for blending tradition with innovation, Academia Cotopaxi seeks a new Director to continue its legacy of fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment. As part of its strategic vision, the school is committed to educational innovation, collaborating with leading institutions such as Learnlife to enhance its program.
The primary responsibility of the Director is to carry out the school's stated mission. As the Chief Executive Officer of the school, the Director is the Chief Advisor to the Board of Directors and has 9 direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the school's mission in collaboration with the Board of trustees
- Provide educational leadership and ensure a positive, safe learning environment
- Establish effective organizational leadership and staff involvement
- Review, execute and communicate the Board’s policies and directives
- Oversee professional development for the Board of Directors
- Attract, retain, evaluate and develop qualified faculty and staff
- Ensure effective communication with all school constituencies
- Promote principles of equity, justice, and individual dignity
- Manage daily operations and strategic planning
- Attract and retain qualified students
- Evaluate and improve educational programs and activities
- Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements (NEASC) and updated manuals
- Oversee financial management and maintenance of school facilities
- Co-develop with finance team plans and budgets for Board approval
- Monitor and report on the financial status of the school
- Ensure current and practiced emergency procedures
- Operate the school within budgetary limits
- Represent the school in community affairs and at conferences
Requirements
- Relevant graduate degrees in education and business administration certification
- Solid experience in a leadership role in a comparable-sized international education institution
- Knowledge of current educational research and best practices in school education, including experience in the NEASC framework and/or experience in PYP/IB/DP
- Successful track record of using contemporary instructional practices and technology integration
- Experience in leading innovative instructional practices
- Experience managing disciplinary incidents with positive results
- Fluent level of English and advanced level of Spanish are highly desirable
